Damn, from the crowd "that's twice" it sounds like the catcher was coached to do this on purpose. Unsportsmanlike move, especially considering the batter didn't seem to be intentionally getting in the way.

Back on the dirt...
The batter needs to be coached better. I agree it seems callus but the catcher is should doing her job. I don't see the unsportsmanlike conduct. Not that the batter is protected by staying in the box but I tell my catcher that it is not her job to decide to throw or not based on the batters position. Step behind and throw and pray the batter doesn't get in the way.

That's twice? I didn't hear that. But if batters are coming out of the box and getting into the throwing lanes more then once in a game. I would say they either have been coached to do so or never coached not to. Either way the offense's coach has some work to do.

If you quickly leave the batters box with a runner on 3rd you are putting yourself in the way of a play. Stand your ground until the catcher gets rid of the ball.

Unless to avoid interfering with a play at the plate or have become a batter-runner, there is no reason to leave the BB. Then again, a batter doesn't need to be out of the BB to be called for INT.

Gimme a break, this isn't the NPF. I'm watching Tenessee-SC right now and a college batter did the exact same thing (same situation, runners on 1st+3rd), it's instinct to look to your base coach and you don't want to be in the box while not paying attention.

I like the fans! "grab your torches and pitchforks!":D
I was once reprimanded by an ump because I told a batter to stay in the box. he said that if she interfered with the putout attempt the baserunner would be out regardless of whether she was in the box or not.

Good video but you cant see enough to tell if the batter stayed in the way (intentionally or otherwise) or if the catcher deliberately nailed her as an easy way to get the interference call. Excellent learning moment for both sides!

(I looked at it again and I don't think the catcher did it on purpose and I think the batter was kind of walking up the baseline rather than stepping away)
