I know it's area-dependent, but I'm trying to get a feel for how much school HS players are typically missing for softball each season.

Most of the time, it should be none (at least around here...IHSA...IL). If it happens, it's rare and usually due to something extra scheduled outside of regular play. Our school, for example, is going south for a tournament at the start of spring break and have to leave early the Friday before so will miss that day. No regular games or post-season play are scheduled such that school needs to be missed, as far as I know.

For high school the occasional last period for the longer away trips or we play a couple of schools without lighted fields so we play those games at 4pm. Maybe around 4-5 classes per season. If you make Regionals or the State Tournament I think they miss another couple of days for those.

For qualifiers/showcases travel.. a lot of Fridays and the occasional Thursday. I think it was about 6 days in total last year. We always tries to get there a day early to do local college tours, etc.

A lot. 4 days so far not counting 2-3 X week leaving early. DD's school started playing games a month ago.
Teachers work with the girls, so it's tough, but manageable.

DD is about to start her 3rd year of HS ball and was dismissed early once for a game, aside from that they have not missed any school. She's been dismissed early 3 times in 3 years for soccer also.

Around here it is the occasional early release for an out-of-town game, and there are no more than 2 games a week.
However, sometimes the games get rescheduled due to bad weather, so the last week of the season can be rough.

If 2 -4 hours a week is an issue in HS, you might as well cross College Softball off the to-do list. Better learn to prioritize and manage your time now.

The best thing my DW ever did was demand that my DD have PE as her last class of the day. She probably missed it 40% of the time in season, but her softball coach was her PE coach...win/win!
