Please keep 29dad and his DD in your thoughts and prayers today! Sarah is having shoulder surgery to repair a small tear in her labrum and to remove some floating bone chips. Her rehab time will depend on the extent of the tear. They had thought about trying to fix it just through rehab, but I told 29Dad to go ahead and have the surgery, then do the full rehab so there are no excuses when Duke whips ND in the Spring of 2018!

She is out of surgery and it went well, but the tear was larger than they had hoped and she will be out @ 5 months for rehab.

Done! Thank you for sharing. Those 5 months will feel like forever but pass in a flash. She will be stronger and better than ever.

Ouch! I hope she has a speedy recovery. It is too bad she will miss her senior season of HS ball.

For the next 5 months, it will seem like forever.

In the grand scheme of things, it is nothing compared to her health.

Best wishes for a full recovery.

I had my torn labrum repaired (after 3 cortisone shots and 6 weeks of physical therapy they gave me an MRI). She will pull through.

The best advice I can give is to be careful with the pain meds. They gave me a week supply of oxycontin. I took one the first day. I spent the day on the couch watching TV. I never changed the channel, I didn't move, I didn't sleep, I didn't eat. I just laid there with my eyes open in some kind of drugged trance. The next day flushed the meds down the toilet.

Dealing with a torn labrum for 2 months was way worse than the recovery from surgery. An opioid addiction would have been worse than the injury.

Prayers sent!

Prayers sent to them! I had a player this past year which went through that but a bit more extensive. Her's tore the whole way through. They drilled a hole through the bone and re-attached it. She wants to come back this year and so far, after 7 months, I'm impressed! She throws harder than before. Just know, it can be done!

Thanks to JAD and everyone else for the kind words of support. My little patient is doing well despite a touch of nausea and a bit of pain. In the grand scheme of things this is but a minor setback and I truly believe that she will come back better and stronger. Last weekend she went 4 for 6 including a double and a tie breaking homer with two outs in the 7th, and now she will be in a sling for a month or so. The ups and downs of sports I guess. She received a nice pick-me-up in the mail today by being notified that she is a National Merit Finalist. So there you go

Thanks again to everyone and I will check back in from time to time and let you know how she's doing
