Now that DFP's favorite bat expert is being forced out of business, I want to start a thread to thank him for everything he has done, great and small.

I will be first.

I only got one bat from him. I was planning on getting another one either this year or next, so I don't have the experience that some of you have, but one was enough to let me know he's the real deal.

My DD 3 has her birthday in very early January. Often we are visiting NYC during XMas and New Year, and when we do that, we usually have a birthday party for her on New Year's Day, since everyone is off work and school. DW is Chinese, and the Chinese custom is to give money for presents.

A little over a year ago, DD 3 really wanted a CF 8 -11. I talked to Core Softball, he gave me advice, and tracked down the bat for a lot less money than the other places charge on their web sites. I mean, we really wanted a very specific bat, and he had it, and he was able to explain all about bats to me (I was completely clueless) so my DD 3 could get just the right bat.

I paid on my credit card. DD 3 counted up enough of her XMas and birthday money to pay me back. I arranged to have the bat delivered right after we went back. A few days later, DD 3 took her bat to a winter practice. She raved about it.

So, thank you for the great price and great service. Stuff you can't get at Big Box Sports (esp. since one of the two Big Box Sports stores in our area closed down, and we only have one left. Also a small operation, which we sometimes patronize).

I was out of town this weekend. What happened? Why is CoreSoftball20 getting shut down?

So Cal
About 7-8 bats have come through my hands from Core over the last couple of years. A couple of those were for my kid, and the rest were for her teammates. For me, it's been a good feeling knowing I have been able to help parents save a few dollars while providing the best gear for their daughters who put their heart and soul into the game.

One girl, in particular - from a family with 4 kids under the age of 12 - unwrapped her new CF8 one morning, before our first game of the day. The girl was our lead-off batter, and the first pitch she saw with her new bat, she drilled for a HR. Her dad, who had been apprehensive about spending the money for a top-level bat, looked at me with a big smile after his DD crossed the plate..."Yep. That was worth every penny."

Thanks, Todd, for everything you have done for softball, and especially the DFP community.

Thank you Todd. Last summer I ordered a bat at 4PM PST on a Monday and had my daughter had it in time for practice on Thursday. Luckily I ordered a bat that anticipated her growth spur since July, so I should be good for this year. Guess she's going to be using a 31" drop 10 Hope CF9 for several years before I think about getting another.

Good luck getting a 31 to last "several years". In my experience, girls using 31s are often right smack in the growth-spurt age range. Keep an eye out on the used and close-out market.

I had picked up a used 30 drop 10 2015 Xeno. $60 for 10yo dd. I shook it before I bought it and no rattle. When I got home to prove to my wife how smart I am, I shook it again. Only this time even harder. Now there is a very light rattle. This is near Christmas. I end up seeing a 31 drop 10 LXT nib for $160 so I buy that for insurance just in case the 30/10 doesn't pass inspection. DD swings the LXT all winter and really likes it. Season starts and she is playing 12u with some faster pitching so she ends up using the 30/10 all season. During the season we were gifted a 32 drop 11 CF7 that was new in the box. I used it for flyballs and grounders. It was very dead compared to the Louisvilles. Eventually, it gets broken in and now the ball goes farther than her two LS.

Short story long, by the end of the season dd has grown a bit and switched to the CF7. She really likes it. It is actually lighter than the Xeno 30/10 but with a longer barrel. She never used the 31" in a game. Lol...
