So Cal
We will be sticking with the team we have been with since we moved from rec to TB...CA Rage 12U (04).

We're sticking. She was offered spots with a couple of bigger names but we did that last year and did not enjoy it. Our org isn't known for softball at all yet so the name wouldn't mean much but we're happy. We started with 10 girls and lost only one from fall (great kid, not so great dad; he's the reason). Pretty sure we have her replacement, plus one more to get us to 11. This is the kind of team that's losing 6 to 3, last inning, 2 outs, and comes back to win 9 to 6. So much heart. We aren't even tempted to go anywhere else.

A team that can grow together is a good thing at younger ages...assuming the coaching is good. Sounds like you have a good place for your DD.

Most teams in our area have tryouts in the fall, right after Nationals, but there is always some shuffling after the Fall season.

Most teams here had tryouts in early December, but quite a few are still at 8 or 9 on their roster, so there will be many more. We are staying at our same 10u team, my DD really likes the team and I'm happy to allow her to decide. Yes, it helps that I like them too. :) And the run for my oldest ended last year, she's now doing something she is a lot more passionate about. I miss the times we had together, but like all of us, am truly happy she is doing what she loves.

Seems like everybody and their brother around here is looking for a pitcher at 14U right now. Is it like a "thing" for pitchers to reshuffle between fall and spring? Our team lost one and we need to pick up another one. Where did they all go?

Seems normal in 10U too. I keep seeing ads from coaches starting new 06 teams, and I'm thinking, good luck with that! There aren't a ton of 06 girls around here & of course only a small percentage of them are actual pitchers. In 10U there's one big name here that has 90% of the pitchers here right now (I exaggerate, a little). They lost their #1 to another big name then added like 4 to replace her, all good, in addition to the 3 they already had. They should have an interesting spring. I'm sure the parents who invest in pitching lessons and all the bucket time will be cool w/ splitting pitching 6 ways. I think that's why pitchers jump around more than some. They're also in demand more than most other positions, so it's easy to find a new team to go to where maybe the coach convinces you your DD will be better off (and sometimes, it's true). The only player we lost for spring was our #2 pitcher.

Please don't take this the wrong way, but I think there are more than 9 pitchers around who can pitch and pitch well. These "big name teams" at 10u do not have a lock down on the only pitching talent or talent in general.

Also there are a lot more 06 girls around you than you realize.

Oh and we will be on a start up team.

I said I was exaggerating. It was to make the point that 6-7 starting-level pitchers is probably not maintainable. Of course there are good pitchers outside of the big 3 (here, it's 3 big names, several kind of second tier, then a bunch of others); but the big 3 tend to attract them more easily. Getting a quality pitcher on a no-name team is harder. That's just the way it is. Some of us with good pitchers don't want to be 1 of 7, or deal with the higher level of crazy you see in 10U with the highly competitive teams. But a lot of the parents seem to get caught up in the name chasing even at this age. *shrug* It's no skin off my nose, just an observation.
