My sister in law lost her battle to cancer less than a week ago. She was a single parent with 5 children with 3 boys still young....age 9, 12 and 13. We are trying our best to get Christmas gifts for them. She also had no insurance nor money in the bank. So we also have funeral expenses to cover. I have reached out to the oldest two father to talk with him about arranging for my husband and I to raise them. He agrees to the arrangement but it bothers me that he doesn't want to talk to his kids. He says he cannot deal with his ex wife passing at the moment.

Sorry to hear about your loss. You and your husband are extraordinary people to take on the responsibility of two more kids. Hopefully the dad will come around and understand the kids need to hear from him. Even if he's been estranged from them and your sister-in-law it would be hard to imagine him not wanting to comfort his children, no matter what his relationship was with their mother.

Good luck to all of you. Are the younger children being taken care of in a similar manner?

Be sure you speak with an attorney who specializes in some type of family law to make sure everything is legal. For your protection as well as the kids. There will be things in their lives that require a Legal Guardian.

We will be takin in 3. The youngest has a separate dad. My SIL is the grandparent but has raised him since birth. She went to court for full custody.

All I can say is sorry for Your loss. Hopefully you can find some common ground for the additional responsibility you took on with the extra children such as baseball, softball.or some other sport which will teach them life lessons as well as what you are willing to teach them on a personal level. Prayers coming your way from Ohio. May God bless you guys!

Praying for you and your family. It's nice that you reached out to all of us at DFW, we always lean on each other for the softball stuff. But what really matters is our own families and faith. We don't know much about each other but we all can pray for the best in this situation. We don't know the answers but we all can offer our best and be praying for good results four you.
