We did this for 2016 and my daughter made the team and we went to FL - it was a big expense - we made it a vacation, but still a big expense. Great experience, but I was disappointed in the young girl coaching - I thought we were going to get a college caliber coach.

The tryout itself was great and I think that was worth the money, but I would not want to travel down there again. I agree with the previous post and will be spending money on more college camps.

I see they have one in Peoria,IL. That's about 3 hours or so from here. I wouldn't mind bringing DD just to get some real numbers and see how she stacks up, but if she did make the team I could see some real schedule conflicts with her TB team. I would hate for her to go and make the team, then have to turn down the spot.

If all you want is unbiased numbers then go and do not feel guilty about turning a spot on the team down. If your DD is at the recruiting age then she'll be much better off with her travel team if they do things to get the players in front of the college coaches.

You have another option in Illinois. On Deck is there every year. Check their schedule to see if there is something your DD get into. They have a respected reputation when it comes to numbers and player evaluation.

Lots of players turn down spots. In fact more turn down spots then take them - especially if you are out west and you don't want to travel.

My DD and her teammates have helped make up numbers for various 'location' teams the last two years as we are fairly local so it is not a big deal for us to turn up for the game days. DD has never actually played for the SouthEast/Florida team (in fact has turned down a spot because we thought we had a conflict) but she has played for West and MidWest I believe. Made some nice friends she still chats to online. It isn't a recruiting event yet, but you can see year after year USSSA continues to build on what they are doing and they are getting better and better at it.

For college recruiting though - OnDeck is probably a better idea. Our team is hosting the one in South Florida at our fields in February.

My little baller had a great time last year and was selected to go to Florida. Over 400 girls evaluated 192 selected.
She likes to know where she is athletically and uses the event to push herself even more. Florida is hot but not any worse than the Midwest during summer.
If your kid excels at the tryout process she will like it. Suppose to be fun and the people we've met have been great.

The coaching was taken over by parents as the young lady although she played softball wasn't up to the task of coaching it.
Used the time as family vacation and ate at some great places.

Will sign up again to just keep building her resume and stacking her up against the best anywhere.

Here, last year at least, the best players weren't there. I don't think the most elite players seem interested in this for whatever reason. I actually didn't see any players from any of the big 3 names in my state, which doesn't mean there weren't any there. But if there were, it wasn't many.

A couple of girls from my DDs 10u team signed up to do the evaluations in my area. I signed my DD up for the evaluations after talking with them (felt peer pressured, lol). We made a pact that if our DDs make the team we're going to rent a house for the week and stay together.

Let us know how it goes!

It is great as long as they do not lose the binder containing all of the info from your DD's field. Actually this happened at the Elite Select All American camp. The only reason we went was to get the numbers. They lost the binder for our field so none of the girls that were on it received anything. No refunds or credit for future tryouts. So personally I feel like it is a money grab as much as anything. You pay for something and you do not get it so can it be called anything else?

This! My DD was in the group that participated and received no stats or anything due to them being "lost". Alledgedly after the selections were made. No credits, no refunds, not much of an apology....Definitely left a bad taste in my mouth.

That was our group as well. Making the team or not was not the primary reason we even went. We were trying to get good baseline numbers in different areas so she would have something to measure her improvements as she kept working.
