In general, there seems to be very little loyalty to a team and IMO the worst offenders are the pitchers who are good but not great who think they should be the #1 and/or get more playing time. It's not uncommon for a pitcher to play for at least 3 different travel ball teams in a 11 month season. Parents and players need to do a better job of researching teams before they join and then stick with that team for the season. Once a few players leave mid-season it's starts a domino effect that many times implodes the team. What message are we sending to our kids that it's ok to break a commitment at any time if we are even a little unhappy with the situation?

SOME coaches (not all, many are great obviously) are pretty darn good at the bait and switch though. We had that with both the teams DD was on last year, in different ways, and it's so hard to know until you're with them for a couple of weeks and see how they really work. We didn't leave mid-season though. We left the first one after fall, then the second after spring/summer. There are not many reasons I can think of that justify leaving mid-season.

ETA: I will say, at least with the fall team, the red flags were all over the place but we didn't know what to look for. But we do now. Even so I think the spring team would have gotten us even with what we know now.

Loyalty is a two way street and I've seen way too many coaches and teams add a guest player or three just to win a tournament, thus I don't follow this theory completely. It's like college football recruiting to me, if the team is looking around for the next great player, the kids and their families have a right to look around for the next great team. And if a team can't give a kid PT, it really can't complain when the kid finds someone else who will.
