This was good- thanks for posting!
Unfortunately, it does take the injury of a high profile player to get any serious attention.
Folks keep talking about mandating wearing a mask (I am pro-mask but anti-mandate) which begs the question- are catchers required to wear masks and/or other protective equipment?

I saw a 10U pitcher take a hit this weekend. It was a glancing blow off her face mask and she was fine, didn't even seem to phase her. A glancing blow off her head would probably have been a different story. Very scary.

Kind of old news. Both pitchers along with others are no longer with Mizzou. Will be interesting to see if incoming Freshman Parker Conrad opts to start wearing one. She will probably see a good amount of circle time in the SEC for which she is less than prepared.

DD pitched with Parker a year ago when she was with the Bullets. She's a good kid with lots of talent. I agree as a freshman it's a challenge to be prepared to step in without an experienced Ace on the staff. She’ll take her lumps, but I expect her to have a lot of success at Mizzou.

Unless of course she starts wearing a mask. This story from the KC Star is conclusive proof that masks in college cause programs to implode pitchers to transfer.

Yes....JO Catchers are required to wear the helmet/mask combo, shin guards, and chest protector. ASA 3-5. Adult FP catchers are only required to wear a mask.
All of the other rule sets that I know about have similar requirements.

Unfortunately the problems with the Mizzou softball program are only a symptom of much bigger problems with political correctness running amok at yet another once great university. My DD is very thankful she did not accept their offer.

God I hope you were joking when you wrote this. If not, WOW.

Yes, I was joking. I’m pro mask. I’d like to see all the younger girls wear them no matter their position. However the statement was no more absurd then most used as “proof” that masks should be mandated. Even so I’ll take a good mask debate any day over the silliness we’ve seen from the two clowns running for President.
