Youth Softball Nationals Tournament – An Experience Like No Other

Anyone here ever played a year-end tournament with this organization? I tried searching but didn't notice any real matches. We're looking at possibly Myrtle Beach or KY for 2017. It's a 7GG and includes a lot of extra fun stuff for the same money. Just curious to hear of any personal experiences. We've done PCB twice, a change would be nice. This team won't be up for USA Elite Select or PGF this year. We're looking for a fun experience with some decent competition, not necessarily wanting a best of the best type thing. We're considering USSSA in Orlando but the heat and crowds are a big deterrent. We looked at ASA but school starts back as early as July 31 in some GA counties, and it's the week after that. I tried to convince the whole team to homeschool so it wouldn't be an issue but believe it or not, they didn't go for it.

A friends team played last year. Liked the peripheral stuff but found the # of teams and level of competition not very exciting at least for 12U. Heard that 14U and 16U had to be combined because there were only a few teams.

DD did PCB once and it was easily the most fun Nationals we have done. Not necessarily the best competition, but the best mix of softball and vacation. I have sat in hotel rooms in Normal, IL, Salem, VA, Chattanooga, TN and Hunting Beach, CA wishing I was in PCB...

It's so hot and muggy though. In Kentucky it averages 85 in July according to Google. That sounds nice.

We have been to the USSSA in Orlando several times and it isn't too bad. 2017 I believe is going to be the last year at ESPN before the new USSSA stadium opens just east of Orlando so it might be fun. Competition is reasonable in thr younger age groups (16U and above the depth isn't there) and they have been doing a good job of making sure teams are in the right classification for the past couple of years which has been a welcome surprise.

Also consider the USFA in Panama Beach. It is a fun tourney to go to as well.

Florida makes it easy to rent a couple of huge vacation houses and have the whole team stay together. I like that more than hotels - though it can be real chaotic.

Our coaches want no part of USSSA in Orlando. Instead we're doing Nationals in Salem, VA this year. UGH.

We have not done softball nationals, but let me put a good word in for the SEAA World Series in Pigeon Forge, TN. Excellent facility with tons to do when your not at the diamonds. Added bonus is that it's not stay to play which means you can stay in some really great condos or cabins in the area. We stayed at Whispering Pines condos and loved it.

You'll see team from all around the Midwest and Southeast with some very good competition. It's pool play to double elimination so there's plenty of games to be played.

Ooohh, TN. Not a bad drive for us either. Thanks!

I am guessing Salem is the site of ASA Nationals for your DD's age group. When we went to Salem we actually stayed in Blacksburg and played a couple of scrimmage games on the VT field and toured their facilities. You may want to suggest your coach check into that if your DD is at an age where recruiting is important.

The Softball Nationals has really taken off this year and provide a great experience for players and families. Myrtle Beach has 20 12u teams for 2017 and 14 teams in the 14u division. The Ky event has 18 teams in 12u and 18 teams in the 14u division. Ky has teams from all over the US and Myrtle Beach has more teams from the east coast. The facility in Ky is top 5 in the country hands down and wont see fields like that until they play D1 level. I would highly recommend the Softball Nationals.
