DD#2 travel team sold sheets this fall... When she came in with the sales sheet, I was like "sheets? Seriously, sheets?!"... Well, now I am like "heck yeah! SHEETS!!!"... Team of 10 girls raised over $6,000 selling sheet sets... Honestly, I don't why it did so well. Naturally the parents worked it with the girls and surprisingly, the sheets are really good quality sheets. Just an assumption on my part but I think it hit a different market or niche than the usual fund raising...

The key to the success of any fundraiser is getting the players and parents involved. It has been my experience over the years that @ 20% of the parents would rather just stroke a check and @ 20% will not participate regardless. That leaves you with 60% of the families doing 100% of the work. Over the years we switched to a model where players dues were set and we offered some fundraising opportunities for families that wanted to participate. We never had much luck with fundraisers that went into the general fund.

I hear you but to be clear, are you saying in your case the fundraising activities went to each individual family as opposed to the entire team?

I agree; not all families or kids will be as productive or participatory.

Our team will just need to decide if our work will benefit all families or just the ones that worked.

We have had gun raffles, whole hog raffles, butter braid and cookie sales, barbecues, you name it. All have been successful and made money. Our biggest profit maker was a cosmic/glow bingo, which is a lot of work but also a ton of fun. All of this money generally went into a team fund. This year I think her team is doing pizza sales. Any pizzas she sells or sponsorship's that she gets goes directly to her fund this year, which I like.

It depends on what type of fundraiser you are doing. If you run a car wash, the money usually goes into the general funds and all families benefit equally. For a raffle we would tell each family you are responsible for selling $XXX of raffle tickets - you can stroke a check and put your name on the tickets or sell them, your choice.
