The complex is going to be really nice once it is done. Our girls loved playing on the all turf. It plays fast as everyone has said and the turf can get hot. The tunnels and grass areas were not open when we played there so there wasn't much space to warm up. Definitely make sure the girls don't wear any smooth soled shoes. A few of our girls thought they could wear tennis shoes and that was a big mistake.

Yeah...I know....old post.

But instead of starting something new with the same info...figured I would just comment on this one.

DD will be playing in the PGF Midwest Regional Championships at the Slugger Complex at the end of July. Looks like most of the posts from last year say the same thing..."Will be great when it's done"....that's my main question...is it done? Even their website still has the computer mock-ups...no real pics.

Also...sounds like molded cleats are the way to go? We play dome ball up here in MN during the winter and she's been wearing her turf cleats and regular tennis shoes. Is the turf there very "short cut"? More like carpet than the artificial turf they use on football fields?

Last question...I see it says no coolers...anyone ever try bringing in a small one with just water/gatorade for a player?

DD played there in July of 2016. It was hot not everything was up and running, but there weren't any major problems. Our other daughter has played inside the dome recently and it's a very nice facility too. It's close to a lot of restaurants, hotels and grocery stores and other shopping.

I can't speak to whether the facility is finished, but in regards to the notion that "It'll be great when it's done." ... I don't know about that. What I saw was acres and acres of black top and concrete. Shade ? - None. Don't get me wrong I brought a tent.

From a player's perspective I'm sure it's a great experience, but from a parent or spectator's perspective I don't think I would be interested in going back.

They were pretty strict about bringing coolers in. They did supply huge coolers of ice cold water in the dugouts for players & coaches (with the paper cone type cups), and they did allow us to bring in coolers of ice water with cooling towels in them (it was July, so it was smoking hot on the turf). Parking is very close, so it was super easy to keep the coolers in the car and head to the parking lot for a picnic lunch. Also, after the first day, we took notice of what type of Gatorade they were selling there. We bought the same size bottles/flavors at the grocery store and kept a cooler of those in the car. We could easily carry those in from the parking lot b/c it looked like we were coming over from the concession stand at the other complex of fields across the parking lot, and it appeared as though they was purchased from there. That saved us some $. Another thing to note, no seeds or gum are allowed on any of the turf fields.
