Just got back home from what is suppose to be a showcase. Dd played on one of the showcase teams a mix of girls in the tournament. The big deal was there was going to be college coaches there. Thats the first joke, just us parents watching, I guess the TD forgot to send out the memo to the college coaches. The second joke, the showcase for the parents to watch ends and now, all the girls have to jump in their cars and hurry over to where the tournament is being played with about 20 mins. to spare and get with their teams. Traffic at 5:00 is kind of heavy @ that time. The third joke, this is the good one, the bases are all wrong on all the fields and pitching distance are wrong on 2 of the fields. The field our team was playing on, first base is 63' & third base is at 61'. Second base wasn't even checked or the pitching distance. I hope tomorrow isn't as much of a joke. By the way our game ended in a 3-3 tie, fitting ending to a moronic day.

The TD can invite the coaches. However, if the players have not been doing their legwork contacting the coaches there is no incentive for them to come. The coaches do not show up to a tournament hoping to find a player. They come to see specific players who they're interested in. They have a limited number of recruiting days and will not waste any of them on chance.

Did you send out a bunch of information to the coaches at the schools your DD is interested in?

As for the field conditions. It sounds like some of those we've been on before.

Fair enough on your point sparky, but when they advertise that the schools have committed to being there, it would seem redundant for the coaches to receive a bunch of emails, asking them if they are coming. TD posted in they're ad and on OFC all the schools committed and others that we're thinking about coming.

The JOB of getting your DD signed at a school rests solely on your family's shoulders. There are numerous publications that outline the do's and don'ts with regards to recruiting. Do lots of reading so you understand the process fully, because you don't get a chance to do it over.

Have your DD email coach's regularly. Almost to the point of making a pest of herself. Make sure she sends them her schedule and highlights of past weekends. Remember... Make sure your DD gives herself LOTS of options when it comes to schools. She may have her dream school selected. However, they may not have her on their radar. The most important piece of advice I can give. Make sure your DD chooses the school as if she is not going to play ball there. She must be happy there without softball being the determining factor.

Good luck with the process.

Any tournament played at Firestone will not likely be a true showcase. Not to mention it's probably NSA and in Ohio, NSA is not for the "serious" teams. Plus, the 16u ASA state tourney is going on in Findlay, so most of your strong teams are there, and that's where the coaches would be.

Listen to Spark Guy. Everything is true. DD and my self thought that college coaches will just show up looking for players
The coaches do not show up to a tournament hoping to find a player.
Since my DD has committed (DIII). I've been talking to a lot of college coaches DII & DIII. They are not going to showcases hoping to find a player. They have said that is a waste of time. Players e-mail them and they go see that player. DI may be and I'm sure is a different story.

No, they need to get an e-mail from your DD to invite them to come see her play. DD needs to invite them with game times and field number location. You will be surprise by the response of the college coach's saying they will come see your DD play. Even if it's for an inning or 2. Do you think they would have recruited my DD if a college coach was just wandering around.
but when they advertise that the schools have committed to being there,
Most showcase tourneys will list the colleges that have ATTEND in the past. So, that information gives you at least a starting e-mail list. You & your DD need to do the work to get recruited no one and I mean no one is going to do it for you. Again JMHO.

No It is ASA, problem is half our team are already signed for colleges. Dd has 4 coaches emailing her right now, but we are not running the same circles. Emily is playing for an Ohio team and we live in Pa and all 4 coaches are from Pa schools and are going different directions. I guess Emily should of stuck with playing in Pa, but I love the level of play in ohio.

Most tournaments and showcases my dd attended had a list of coaches that were invited and a list of committed coaches. We never cared about the invited but used the committed to send out stuff to.

Who is she playing with? And I didn't realize there had any ASA tournaments at Firestone. That must be a fairly new development. Maggie hasn't played a tournament there in years because of them being NSA.
