Did anyone else see the call in the bottom of the 7th that looks like it is going to cost A&M the chance to play one more to advance?

I believe that the ultimate call was that the slapper who hit the ball was out of the box and was called out. The ball looked to be fair on the hit. If it was fair, it was a walk off single to win the game.

Was that the call? And can anyone explain why in the world the batter's box cannot be retraced during a game. It appears the lines have been gone for a while now and the call is solely on the umpire's judgement. Makes it awfully hard for the batter to know where the ump thinks the line is.

Field crews can tarp, work on the rubber area, water, etc Why can't they replace the batter's box?

The call in the 7th looked bad. I replayed it several times and her foot was inside the batters box...you could still see some of the line.

The bunt call in the 6th (?) was correct...the player stepped on the plate when she bunted.

totally blown call. you cannot make that call in that situation. if i am not mistaken she made that call three times in the game. how many games have you ever seen that before. let the teams decide it on the field. i know it is a hard and thankless job but bad umpiring drives me nuts.

Great comment Redhotcoach....you beat me to it!

That is such a simple call for the plate umpire. The slapper steps with that foot directly in front of home plate. I have made that call at least four times this year during the HS season.

You can't miss that call...it's right there in front of you. And everyone else is watching the batted ball jump off the bat. You are the only one that sees it! And the crowd moans!

I picked up the game in the 6th. I saw the step on home plate, but even then they commented no one could see the lines.

Is it against the rules to reline the box? I just don't get it, why make it a question?

It may be, but can't the NCAA afford lime?

And she didn't signal out until well after everything was over. If she knew it was an out, why did she wait until everything was over and the batter was a 2nd to signal out?

No - she called it almost immediately. She's waving for dead ball before the outfielder gets to the ball.

Oh, and it was good call: batter clearly steps in front of the plate which is out of the box.

It's a dead ball call. The 'blue' signaled dead ball as she saw it. Once she gets everyone's attention....when play ends, she calls the batter out. That is the process.

And no, lines are never redrawn during a game. The blues are also taught not to take the bat and make the line. The line is the line as the umpire sees it. That comes from every umpire clinic and training....either at the upper local levels to the ASA National tournaments. It is what we are told to do.
