Our league will be having it's All-Star game at the end of the season and they have never done an inter-league All-Star game before. I am reaching out to get some advise on a few items at hand. We will be picking players from each team and totaling them up, then splitting into to play against each other, (Red vs Blue). The issues are as follows:
1. Divisions with 5 teams. How do we pick from teams 1-5 to make it fair? 1 being the #1 team in division and #5 the last place team.
With 6 team divisions we were going with (Red)1,4,6 (Blue) 2,3,5 ?
We would like to keep players from their teams together?

HELP!!!!

Just pick the players and assign them to teams. If it's just one game it's great to play against your teammates.

Nothing is perfect but I have always liked an auction system.

If there is a god them assigning teams is OK too.

Unless there is a good reason, splitting players up is good for them IMO.

It is just one game for fun, so it should not matter...but you could go 1,3 against 2,4,5 if you don't want to split girls up. Not sure if you are trying to keep selections even. You would probably have a few more girls picked from team 1 anyway and not as many as team 5; if team 1 was really dominate you could go 1,4 versus 2,3,5. I would just talk it over with the coaches and see what they want to do; since you are not going outside the league I would make this as low key and low threat as possible. Is there going to be a different out of league All Star selection? If so I would really be generous and easy going not sure exactly how serious this is from your league perspective if it is just one game.

Another suggestion would be just pick teams or even random draw (after P and C assigned) again the key needs to be FUN; could announce all stars a week before, then could even draw right before game have color T shirts ready for each team blue and red, Pitchers and catchers in their own hat, then bat the line up in order of draw (11 or 12 per team), do free substitutes in the field...did I mention FUN.

If you are not playing outside the league there is no reason to make this a long drawn out drama

Not sure who said it, or where I heard it...

"The most fearsome fighting force ever would be an army of mothers whose kids didn't make the all-star team."

I remember when DD tried out for first All-Star team they announced teams right after tryouts (maybe 30 minutes). Assuming they were legit or at least that the coaches
wanted to have a good team I was pretty sure she would make it. I took her to the side before the announcement and told her not to get too excited if her name was on the list. When they posted it was just awful seeing the kids who didn't make it. For the most part parents handled it pretty well but it was tough. It was seriously a case where out of 25 kids who tried out the top 5 or 6 was pretty evident, but the next 10 or so were all pretty much the same at the tryout.

My only advice would be to consider win total and not just finish in the standings. There's a big difference between a #1 that went 15-0 and a #1 that went 9-6.

Also, you said inter-league, but you meant intra-league. That threw me at first.

I like this! Thanks for all the input. Some great advise and wisdom (from experience I'm sure :))
