How to tell if a bat is "dead" or if its just problems in the swing

DD has been working thru some issues in her swing lately - lots of changes. She was hitting great last week and saw her hitting coach this week and started working on several issues. Last night at her team practice she was not hitting well - this happens for her when she over thinks things. She is so focused on making the changes she is working on that all she does is focus on them and then she doesn't hit well. Anyway, one of her coaches kept saying - "your bat is dead". I don't think this is the case - there are no cracks or rattles, or other signs of it being damaged. I think it is just her overthinking - but now she is hyperfocused on her bat being "dead" too. So how do we know?

She has had this bat for about a year. LS LXT - so it's a good bat. She could use a new one, but her hitting coach wants her to hold off moving up in size until we've worked thru some of her swing issues. Thoughts?

You might be in a little bit of trouble.

Once the equipment is the issue, yet another thing in her head.

I would take some swings with it and form my own opinion.

Even if it perfect I am OK getting a new bat to reset.

Eh - she's an LS girl! :)
She actually told me she thinks her coach is crazy and that it's not her bat it's her...

Either way, I'd pick up that Mako from softball.com for $129. Smoking deal. I'd get DD one, if I hadn't bought the same bat last year for $200+. :(

Ouch, my wallet. Good bat to drop in the quiver for later on. I almost bought three. I doubt DD will ever go beyond a 33" bat anyway.... I suck.

DD had the same issue with a 2014 LXT. One day she hit fine with it, next day no pop at all. There were no cracks or rattles at all but she had a few teammates try it with the same result so we sent it in for warranty replacement and it was covered.

I don't think I have ever seen a dead lxt. Dd broke 2. Now has a 33/23 that is a replacement. It has a severe wobble in the connection, but still smokes the ball. Only uses it to warm up or bp. Has a 33/24 that I thought was a turd for quite a while, it's smoking the ball now. Now has a 34/26 that seems pretty responsive with the few hundred hits it has.
That said, tell your dd you think the bat is dead, buy a new one and tell her about the amazing reviews it has. It'll help the confidence and be good to have a new bat

One of my catching students uses an LXT. Her Dad just sent it back for replacement due to it going dead. Should be getting the new one within the next couple of days.
