Hey all,

I'm looking for some feedback from those of you who keep individual batting stats for your dd. I know there are a few new ones out there so hoping to get some input before I pull the trigger.

I've heard of StatCatcher and Softball Stat Tracker but I don't know which would be better, easier, etc.. or if there are some new ones out there you've had good luck with.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does your DDs team use iScore or Game Changer? Ask for access to your DDs stats and just sit back and enjoy the game...avoid the temptation to become "that dad" who keeps stats for just his DD because he is not happy with the scoring of the team. Stats only tell part of the story, especially in a short season. A line drive that almost kills F5 can be an out, while a flare off the handle may drop for a single, but as a coach which batter do you want in the box with the game on the line?

I'm seriously considering just bringing out a notebook and a pencil and doing it the old fashioned way for the whole team this season. We had a guy collecting stats last year with some app or another; after the season ended I asked for my daughter's stats and he had deleted all of the team stats already. It's not a huge deal but that's why I was considering at the very least keeping stats for my own kid. It's not that I don't trust people, just for easy access. He's not with the team this year so I'm thinking of offering to log the entire team's stats. I've brought it up a while back and the coach seemed interested. I just don't want it to take away any of my enjoyment of the games. But I enjoy stats and analysis so I don't think it will.

Couple years ago I told the coach I would do anything he asked me to do to help or stay out of the way.

1st game, would you keep the book for us? No!

How old is your DD and is she looking for a team?

If your team is not using iScore or Game Changer you should consider volunteering to keep a book during the season. It also allows parents who may not be able to be there to follow along if you use the live update feature. It is great for TB. My wife follows along online when she cannot be at the games.

Ha! His DD must not have finished in the top 1/3 or he would have saved them for all posterity!

A lot of coaches don't want the stats being kept and shared openly because stats don't tell the whole story and they'd rather not argue with 'that parent' who thinks his daughter should be leading off, hitting in the top 4, etc....
If you're going to keep team stats, I'd clear it with the HC first. Otherwise, just keep your daughter's and keep it to yourself.

LOL yeah maybe not...

I know the coach pretty well and we've discussed it before. Of course I'll bring it up again because I'm not going to do it if somebody else has already offered. What I offered is a little more in depth than what we had last year as I was planning to record more data such as the pitchers our batters were facing in each game/AB etc. Last year our stats were pretty solid but it wasn't broken down at all by opponents or tournaments. I could see my daughter's basic hitting and fielding stats but I couldn't see for instance which teams and individual pitchers she had excelled against. I agree that stats only tell part of the story but it doesn't hurt to have as much data as possible. IMO anyway.
