DD was home for Christmas and was running on the farm when she stepped into a hole and suffered a sprain ankle. She treated it with the RICE method and it showed improvement.

It has continued to bother her and she finally went to the trainer, he advised the bone (which name she could not remember) has not line back up properly according to the trainer. He has been keeping it taped to bull the bone back in line, but when the tape is removed the bone again becomes misaligned.

He has talked about a special brace designed to pull the bone back in line, which he hopes will correct the problem.

DD is a pitcher and it has created some problems for her.

Wondering if anyone has experienced the problem with themselves or one of their kids?

Just trying to find information.

We shut DD for a few months because of a sprained ankle. Doctor said she could still play if she wanted to but it would not heal until she stopped for a while.

No idea about the bone thing, I would get an x-ray.

Six weeks and still having discomfort? I'd say it's time she gets seen by an orthopedic doc and possibly get some imaging done.

Agreed, the statement that "the bone has not lined back up properly" would red flag me. I'm no expert but it sounds like there may be a break or dislocation of some sort. If not that maybe a torn muscle or ligament that is unable to hold the bone in the proper place. Either way time is your enemy! Get it checked out by a specialist.

DD has a lot of ankle issues. She has broken one ankle and torn ligaments in the other one. She has suffered multiple sprains to both and both are prone to rolling now. She has seen a chiropractor for her ankles and he describes something similar to what you mentined. He said there are 3 bones in the foot/ankle that make up a triangle. When a foot is properly aligned the triangle is very stable (think a 3 legged table), when it is misaligned one of the bones has been moved backwards making the triangle unstable and the ankle more prone to roll. DD has also been taped for this and she is currently wearing 2 low profile ankle braces for added support. Her primary dr and orthopedist referred us to the chiro after repeated xrays/testing to confirm there is no break and no new ligament damage so we are pretty confident we are on a path to recovery. Our real problem is DD plays basketball and that seems to be where re-exacerbations occur - but to tell her to stop is like asking ths sun not to rise.
