My daughter is a decent softball player at a very small high school with a very sub par softball program. She received a letter, through the guidance department inviting her to The College Coaches Skills Camp. Is this just an advertising thing or is there legitimacy to this letter?

Of course the camp cost s money (which I am fresh out of).

It was signed by a local Division I coach.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

College softball camps serve two purposes. The first and foremost is they are fundraisers for the softball program. Many coaches have emails lists of potential "recruits" for their program who they invite to the camp. The signed letter was most likely signed by an assistant coach or one of the team helpers. They send out lots of them.

The second reason for the camps is for the coaches to get a good look, up close, at the athletes they have been actively recruiting or who've been in constant contact with the coach and program.

Unless your DD has been actively communicating with the coach on an ongoing basis; more than likely the coach was using an email list your DD's name was on.

Thanks for the info Sparky. I took her to a small college clinic last year for a D3 school. I am wondering if her name was on that list.
