Just curious, and looking for some feedback. DD was diagnosed with compartment syndrome in her calf about 4-5 weeks ago. DD shut down for 2 weeks and was cleared to play in her final showcase. It was our understanding that the broken blood vessel that led to her issue had healed, and that her playing time would be largly determined by her ability to 1) protect it and 2) her pain tolerance. We were told that the broken blood vessel was just a freak occurance, and the pain would just be the result of the deep bruising and remaining blood clot that would still take time to clear. We were not in any danger at that point of making anything worse by continuing to play. We are now at about 5 weeks since inital diagnosis, and about 2 weeks since we last played. At this point, though much better, it seems to still be a lingering issue. No swelling, but still somewhat tender. We havent been back since we were cleared to play, but i think we are getting close to going back for a checkup. I was just curious if anyone has any experience with this condition, and is it indeed just one of those issues that just takes a lot of time to fully recover from? It just seems to be lingering around longer than i had expected.

Thanks

My older dd's boyfriend had acute compartment syndrome and it required surgery called a fasciotomy. He had surgery on 2 of the 4 compartments of each leg. Complete recovery was about 6 months.

Thanks Lenski...I ended up doing some further research in running forums...yeah, this will take awhile. Not as quick a recovery as it had sounded.
