So Cal
Mid-morning today, I got a call from Maddie. Uh oh! She told me that she was at school in the nurse's office, and she hurt her finger playing basketball. Panic! Maddie being a non-stop, full-speed athlete with her dad's propensity for bumping into things, she gets hurt often enough to know when things are pretty serious, and this was one of those times. The last time she hurt her finger playing basketball at school, it was broken. That was nearly 2 years ago. She said it felt like that. Grrrrrr....

We took a quick trip to Urgent Care and they confirmed it - a fracture on her left ring finger just below the middle knuckle. Damnit. This wipes her out for this weekend's friendlies, next weekend's tournament, and (depending on what the ortho says tomorrow) possibly the rest of our fall season.

Did I say I hate basketball? I do. I hate it.

I think it's time to contact Nerf about a full body suit for an 11yo...

Basketball is the worst for softball players fingers. DD2 jammed her finger 4 weeks ago. Luckily just swollen and bruised. Was hard to grip a bat for a week. Wishing yours a speedy recovery.......:)

Because I was a basketball player is high school, DD (for fear that I would take over her sport) refuses to play basketball. Those finger miscues are the worst and because of that, I ask her if she wants to play basketball every 2 - 3 weeks......just to keep her away from the sport :p

Hope the catcher beast has miraculous regenerative powers and self heals before the tourney (if not the friendlies). btw....EricF, you should totally make that a blog. "I am Catcher-beast"

Aw, sorry. My 11-year old catcher beast broke her left middle finger last year playing basketball in PE (she's a lefty). That little injury cost her six weeks' worth of playing time and about 1500 of her parents' dollars (urgent care visit plus four visits to the orthopedist). It really messed up her throwing and hitting for a good while. No fun!

Ugh, I'm sorry. My dd's elbow started acting up again tonight. Nothing to do with basketball, just sympathizing on the missing out.
