My DD committed to a small DIII school because it was 'small'. Has around 1500 students. DD had offers from a couple of DII & DIII schools that were 'big'. DD liked the small DIII school better. Said it felt like her high school. Also by talking to the softball players and other sport players she was told that alot of students attended games and knew their names. May be if your DD visited some of the 'smaller' schools she might change her mind about softball.
Either way your DD will attend college and will be successful. I wish her the best.
Thanks RD...she has visited about a half dozen small schools and just really feels larger is better for what she wants. I personally loved several of them and would go back if I could LOL.

If she changes her mind and plays in college fine, if not you got her ready to go to college and be successful. Enjoy this last season with her in TB. Maybe you'll get to spend this much time together in the future, but once she heads to college you'll wish you could drive her to practice 2 days a week.

She's a senior...
She talked to a local girl that played a year at a Major D-1 for one year and she told DD to play co-ed slow pitch if she really wants to have fun. She said her one year of college ball was hell and now travels all over the US playing slow pitch. DD also said she just may play in the school's rec program. She keeps texting me schools she's interested in and they are all Major D-1 schools in the south.

In the end, they ALL will end up in co-ed slow pitch. Everyone needs to follow their own path, and your kid is right and smart to figure out her priorities now. I guess I understand the "feeling depressed" part, but it will vanish when you realize that the dream of playing in college was possibly more yours than her's. If I were you, and 10 years younger than I am now, I'd be starting up a co-ed slow pitch team.

Every time my kid made noise about not wanting to play anymore, I just reminded her she only had 4 years left to play competitive ball and then it was over. If she thought she could walk away with no regrets that was fine, but, i knew she would kick herself later in life if she didnt finish out her career.

All the recruiting stress that I had felt is all gone for me and my DD. She decided that academics in college is her highest calling and she might work in softball if it doesn't take too much away from her studies. We are touring schools and asking how much of a time commitment playing softball would be. We are not expecting any athletic scholarship money so dad is planning on paying it all. A lot less stress except for the me pay all part.

Lots of money out there, and athletic scholarship money is only a small part of it. If your kid has good grades and/or test scores, it's out there and available.
