Let me start out by saying I like my Daughter's manager on a personal level he just can't manage a team. It is his first time managing a travel team 10u. He bat's his entire lineup on Sunday's and does not see anything wrong with it even though we are the only team batting 11 on Sunday. He start's pitchers on Sunday that didn't practie all week or pitch on Saturday usually his daughter's friend's. He does not seem to know how to call a changeup my daughter was pitching she was up 0-2 on the batter he started calling fastball away batter fouled off three times daughter shook off the catchers sign of another fastball away still calling fastball away the batter crushed it my daughter told me she knew the girl was gonna hit if she threw the same pitch again but did what she was told. In a game when my daughter pitched 5 innings she threw 1 changup. How should I approach the manager or should I? I will also say there is a really good coach on the team who agrees with me but he has no desire to manage he told me to tread softly with the manager?

It seems like a little bit of a contradiction that he is batting everyone but not calling changeups.

If the Issue is the changeups I would say something, I would like DD to throw a few changeups an inning.

The other Issues you brought up, I would be careful with and probably ignore. When the time comes switch Teams.

(I like Teams that bat all the players. DD is going to be in the lineup regardless so it is not about getting her at bats, I just like to see all the players hit. I know there are different opinions about this but I also know anyone can find a Team that does it the way they like.)

Maybe the manager is focused on developing the kids at 10u and not necessarily winning tournaments? Hard for kids to develop if they don't hit or play on Sundays. With regards to your daughter I'd just talk to him and tell him what pitches she is working on and needs the opportunity to throw them in games.

Welcome to 10U travel ball. It's not the WCWS or the Olympics. Take off the rose colored glasses (I had a pair too - DD is a pitcher). At this age it's about building the skill set. If you don't like the way the team is run, find another team after the season. Or start your own - good luck.

Are these Sunday games really so important that you shouldn't let 11 players bat if the rules allow you to? This is 10U, getting your players experience and at-bats is the objective. You may need some perspective.

Pitch calling is difficult. He may need a little encouragement. The only changeups that pitch callers remember are the ones that get tattooed. Coaches are reticent to call a changeup if they think they can get a batter with a hard pitch.

I agree heartily with posts 2-5. Bat them all. I coached two years of 10U. Batted everybody. No regrets. I didn't know how to call pitches. Would've welcomed any friendly advice from parents or otherwise. I emphasize the world friendly. If this is his first year coaching, then he's not going to be perfect. He'll get better just like the players do, with time. Appreciate his efforts, IMO. He's the one volunteering his hours.

I don’t see an issue with batting roster at 10U where the focus should be about development. It appears your main issue is with the pitch calling. I’d have to agree with the coach on throwing fastballs away on an 0-2 count, especially at 10U where change-ups are still a work in progress. “Away” being the key word. If the pitch got clobbered, the pitcher hung it too close to the plate. My DD would often get ahead 0-2 by blowing two fastballs past the hitter. Instead of just blowing it by them again or putting it off the plate so they couldn’t make solid contact she’d throw a change-up. My thinking was if they can’t catch up to her fastball, why slow it down to something they can hit? While I disagreed with the pitch call, ultimately if my DD throws a good pitch it wouldn’t matter. When it got clobbered it was because she made the mistake of putting it where it could get hit and that’s on her and nobody else.

So a little more back story before the season started it was said play time on Saturday depends on how well you practice during the week. Sunday play time depends on how well you play on Saturday. Talked to him once about changeups that's when my daughter threw 1 in 5 innings season so far my daughter has pitched 33 innings and she has thrown 5 changeups. Not really worried about the 11 batters but when you are told before the season that Sunday is win day then he does that it is confusing and other parents are starting to rumble about it. Like I said I like the guy on a personal level but most times his managing baffeles the mind. Be here at 6:45 Sunday morning but won't start warmups until everyone is there so warmups start at about 7:30 last girl that came is the starting pitcher and she didn't even warmup so she walked in 6 runs in first inning. Kept her in the whole game she gave up a total of 13 runs we lost by 3 doesn't sound like win day or developing players. Fielders don't field cause the pitcher walks about everyone. Batters don't hit cause they didn't have enough batting practice.

I am not sure where you are located but it should be a relatively short fall season so try to have fun. If you committed for the Spring you have a different Issue, start looking for a new Team.

It is very hard to find a Team that both the parents and player are happy with so it takes some work.
