My DD is the fastest base runner on her 10u team, but not a good hitter (frankly, there are very few hitters in our rec league due to poor pitching). She goes hot and cold batting when I pitch to her. Very few in the air to the outfield, but more hot grounders. She is just starting to pull more of her hits.

She has asked to try batting lefty. She is left eye dominant and shoots a bow very well left handed.

I want to know how to time her from home to first to see how fast she really is. Does she take a racing position on the plate or swing and drop bat for timing?

Because she wants to try, I thought we would try slapping left handed. I don't want to discourage her, but want to be sure she is fast enough for it to be feasible.

Typically the batters who switch due to eye dominance its the eye closer to the pitcher that counts the most. That is a right eye dominant person might switch to LH batting. This is the reason I bat left handed. My left eye was for crap as a child and I didn't wear my glasses, in order to see the ball I wound up batting left handed.

Head position can overcome this so your reasons for switching due to speed can still work.
