At the younger age groups (10U - 14U) our team fees averaged $1000-1200, and included helmet, uniforms, bat bag, tournament entry fees, ASA registration/insurance, and misc. At 16U when we played more expensive showcases it was @ $1500. This does not include any travel expenses.

We're in a suburb of Atlanta and there are literally dozens of TB teams (and some orgs have multiple 10u teams) to play against. I'm not looking for "the team" to go to nationals. I'm looking for a team that has at least a handful of parents that are half-sane like myself and an organization that isn't in shambles so our 9 and 10 yo babies can dress up (uniforms and eye black), play a GAME in a more competitive environment, learn more details about their positions and defensive situations, get more game-time reps, and smile (or cry) for pictures to be plastered all over everything (as if there aren't already enough of those).

First, I would figure out what level of ball you and your daughter want to play, then I would highly encourage you and your daughter to go to a 10u tournament and watch that level for most of the day. If you want to play A, go watch some A level games so you and her can see firsthand what it is all about. If B is more in your wheel house, do the same. There are several big 10u tournaments in the Atlanta area over the next 4 weekends starting this weekend in Woodstock, next weekend in Covington, and Oct 3-4 in Lilburn.

Also, be prepared to pay a few bucks for gate fees...:(

We're going to Woodstock on Saturday after her rec game. I'm not sure what A level or B level looks like so we'll be going to multiple tournaments. Perfect excuse for daddy/daughter time. I'm relishing every moment.

A and B is a little fuzzy, especially during the fall. You are going to see some good players and Teams on both.

Don’t let your DD get intimated, she will catch up to the speed of the game once she starts playing with them.

I'm not looking for "the team" to go to nationals.

They have so many ABC nationals most teams can get into one. Seems like all the teams in the NE have that as an end of the year goal. Consider yourself lucky to be down south where fees are still reasonable.

Very good points. There are a ton of teams my daughter will never play for because I don't like the coach.

Also, try to figure out what position the coach's daughter plays. I have found I don't want to play on a team where the coach's daughter plays the same position as my daughter.

One thing I would recommend since you are almost a full year out is start researching which teams align with your location and in general similar goals to yours. Once you find them get their schedules and go watch some games between now and next years tryout times. You will learn a TON from both the coaches and by sitting amongst the parents during the games. Some teams will instantly "eliminate" them selves from the running based on these observations and others will rise to the top of your list of potential matches. This can save a lot of head aches later on as people can be very different at a tryout or on the phone then they are during the heat of the moment.

Good luck!
