As I am looking at our schedule, I see that DD will have to miss a couple of Fridays due to Softball (non school) related events. Travel to another state and an Exposure event.

For those with experience, what are some good excuses to give the school to make those absences "excused?"

Edited to Add: DD is a freshman

In our school, college visit won't count for a freshman. In our school, if a parent calls in, they don't have to provide an excuse. It is excused and why they took their child out is none of the school's business. That is like saying that every time your child gets sick, you have to take them to the Doctor. Who does that?

Cannonball,
Your a teacher in a HS correct.

So, you are saying that it is OK for a student to miss a day/days of school to travel (Friday) for a weekend softball game/games.
Wow...OK....

Yes, I am a HS Teacher. This is my 29th year of teaching. I'll save everyone from the list of awards from the classroom.

My daughter did it and she took all AP Courses. I have the notes, worksheets, PowerPoints, ... all on line. Every student has my email. In fact, today, I have answered about 20 questions on an assignment due tomorrow. Our school functions much the same way. The school that I teach at has been listed in Money Magazine as one of the "Top 100 Educational Values in America" so it seems we do a decent job of educating students. The St. Louis Exposure Tournament will be in the fall and it is huge. Teams will play at facilities anywhere from Chesterfield, Missouri to O'Fallon, Illinois. Teams will come in from all over the country. Most teams will play either Thursday night or Friday morning through Sunday. There will be a ton of college coaches there but few on Sunday so teams want to play when the colleges are there.

RD, I hope you don't think less of me as a teacher. I can assure you that students in my class do just fine.

Yes, school is very important. So is the school of life. Maybe I am lucky as my DD (only in MS) gets straight A's and is an excellent student, but I have no problem taking her out of school for any reason I see fit. As long as she keeps up with her work and doesn't fall behind then as far as I am concerned it is none of the school's business why.

DD goes to Catholic school that relies heavily on the Internet for assignments and questions. They require no excuse just notify them that DD will be out. There are no excuses for missed work. When not playing she is in the hotel doing work.

It should be an excused absence if handled properly. I would add what I tell my players - If missing a day or two in the classroom every so often to attend a college showcase will negatively impact your schoolwork, you have no business even considering playing college softball. The same goes for missing our 2 hour practices each week because of "homework".
