I heard from the parents of one of my students that she won't be at her lesson, in the morning. She had three games today and it was too hot. It was stifling this morning, at 8AM. Then, was 110 about all day long. It is 95 now, at 10:15 PM.

They think that she is having a heat stroke. I told them to head for the ER. They were going to continue to monitor her. But, if she is sick, I would think almost every other girl is, too.

It was a friendly and they said that an umpire had to leave in an ambulance. Crazy.

She is 12 and was drinking as much water as possible.

Wow. I live in GA and it gets really freaking hot here, and it's crazy humid most of the time. I've only been to Arizona once and I figured it'd be about like GA but dry. In reality, it ended up being what I'd think hell would be like. It was July when we went (to visit family - damn my DH for having a summer birthday). It was so hot and the dry air made me feel like my skin was going to dry up and blow away.

DD had her first team practice yesterday from 10-1pm. Here in SoCal it got to 105. DD did not perform very well and had to sit down for a few minutes 2 and a half hours into practice. Didn't help that her practice uniform which is "mandatory" is ALL black. Crazy hot

It has been hot (for us) here in Colorado too. Around 95. I hate mid day practices and games...
Last summer DD passed out while warming up for a game in 100 degree heat. She was wearing her full catchers gear and talking to her coach, when all of a sudden her eyes rolled in the back of her head and she just crumpled to the ground. It was a little frightening, but she recovered quickly. She doesn't do heat well.

The heat soaks through your heat and head. Girls that aren't convinced to wear the best socks that they have, suffer. Visors don't help. All they do is keep the sun out of your eyes.

The diamonds here are just baked desert floor, that isn't cooling off at night. It is 8:20 and is 88 degrees. I have one lesson at 10:15 and one at 5PM. It will be the worst.

A 2 1/2 hour practice would be out of the question.

DD will not play fall ball anymore because it is a double header every weekend. I asked her if she would play if it was just 1 game and she said yes. It just gets way too hot to spend 5 hours out on the field.

At 10U Western Nationals, it was 106-108 every day. We kept an ice-water filled cooler at the end of the dugout for soaking cooling towels. While in the dugout, the girls draped the towels over their heads and necks. Along with lots hydration, the cooling towels were very effective for keeping heat issues minimized.

I have had players have broken bones, DD included. The worst thing I have seen is a player just collapsing. She is just standing there at SS, next thing you know she is on the ground not moving. It all worked out OK.

I guess you get used to it. We play 4 to 6 games in it in a day here. It is brutal though. We have cooling towels which help a lot, and those misting fans. I hate hot weather.
