Head Coach - Of

My DD - P/1b/3b

This is DD's 2015 team. But in regards to teams that we consistently play against, the most common positions seem to be P, SS, and 2B.

Clearly a statistical fluke, wait till later in the season, that HC DD will show up at second, they all do eventually. It will go down something like this....

Wife will ask HC husband why Susie doesn't play the IF, he will realize he should give her some reps. Can't put her at first and piss off pitcher's parents since all pitchers play 1st as a secondary position and pitchers parents are all batshit crazy.

can't put her at SS because SS parents are almost as nutty as P parents, can't put her at third because the balls are hit too hard there. Viola...kid winds up at second....

I think 90% of the teams I have seen have a coaches DD on 2nd. This is for non pitching coaches DDs of course.

I really can't say that is the case on our team though one of the AC's DD does mostly play 2nd when she is not pitching. Last two seasons it has broken down as follows:

HC: P/3rd/Bench/SS
AC: P/2nd/OF/1st
AC: SS/3rd/OF/Bench

I can see why the perception can happen though, especially in younger age groups. For 10U/8U and even most 12U, 2nd is the position that requires the most trust, the best feel for the game and best fielding skills because there is a lot of balls hit that way in games and they have to be sure outs and there is a lot more thinking that needs to happen. I know who I trust and know better if I am coach - my own DD.

Actually that is the perfect combo. As a SS parent you want the pitcher to be hit so your DD can make some plays so it decreases you lunatic pitcher parent quotient since you do not constantly complain when other pitchers get hit. And as a SS parent you know errors get made so you do not bitch about every bobbled ball as a pitcher's parent. But you should start teaching her first base because she will eventually end up there, they all do.

Now that is funny and my DD plays 1B and pitches. Nothing that I ever demanded from any coach though. She started at 1B in coach pitch and even when coaches are not familiar with her, she always ends up back at 1B. Actually, I would be perfectly happy if she got some time in RF or any other position for overall development as a player. Her problem is she is taller than 90% of the other girls her age, has a great glove, and has been playing 1B for so long that her footwork is natural at this point.

As for coaches kids this past season: HC DD - 3B, AC DD -P/CF, and AC DD C. I have definitely seen the trend of which you speak though.
