I have noticed for a while now, that when I work with my pitchers on the radar gun, that their very fastest pitches are almost allways the ones that they lose low in the dirt.a ball low in the dirt is usually 3-4 mph faster than a perfect strike, & one they lose high is usually 3-4 mph slower than normal. I can understand why the high ones are slow, cause they lost the wrist snap, Buy my question is why are the low ones fast, when they havent completed motion, & how do I harness that speed??

Well its a matter of physics. When the ball goes high there is more air under it causing drag, just like a kite. You can't fly a kite 2 feet off the ground but the higher it is the more air there is. So in turn when the ball is low or hits the dirt there is less air allowing for more speed. It really has nothing to do with wrist snap at that point.

Keep her working on wrist snap, arm speed and control and you will be able to get that speed. She is throwing that fast but just work control to keep it there.

Hope this helps,
Good luck

When the ball is hitting the dirt, remind your pitcher to "stride out." She may be getting lazy and has shortened her stride.
