DD was in that list. Its the collection method used. Variances occur in start and finish reaction times by the collector. Its almost like u have to anticipate as we know how long it takes the mind to see, process, send, and then the hand to react.

DD times were .2 slower at this showcase than collected at Missouri summer camp and club times.

Same with vertical jump-they had a nice tool to measure but some were told to jump flat footed and other were allowed to step into jump and crouch as well.

The best places to get times are at showcases when everyone is timed essentially in the same manner. When kids stand out on those lists against their peers you know that the kid has some special skills.

Maybe it's my level, but I'm not big on home to home times. I did home to first and first to third this year. We don't see alot of home runs at 10U :)

The fastest home to first times I was seeing were 3.3 and first to third 7.0

I have seen several 12U girls that have now aged up be laser timed at 3.00 to 3.1. It was at a local college camp and 2 players off last years 12U team were clocked 3.01 and 3.09. The girl that ran 3.09 ran 6.00 H-2nd so she actually get faster as she goes. She is a catcher, 5'5'' and about 130lbs and very fit. Other girl 3.09 h-1st and 6.2 H-2 she is consistent but she's 5'0'' and 80lbs and a pitcher.

This years team there is a girl that is under 3.0 as a 13yr old. She is probably the most athletic girl i've seen in person (no it's not my DD). She can flat out fly around the bases.

The 2.9-3.1 exist at 12U/14U but they are also exceptions, i would say we had one of the fastest teams last season with all players under 3.5 and several 3.1-3.15.

Then again, you can just go onto the websites of a lot of 16U and 18U teams, where you will be shocked at how many girls run a 2.7 home to first.

A couple of times I've done that I've run across kids I know and seen some amazing speeds for them. All I can figure is they were timed running downhill. Or someone was trying to make them look more attractive to a college coach. Thing is, it can be tough to tell how good a pitcher, fielder or hitter is during a tryout. But it doesn't take much to figure out who fudged their running speed numbers.

Here is how we rated players home-to-first speeds during our 14U and 16U TB tryouts. Readings were taken from a standing start and players who started from the left handed batters box had an obvious advantage. We took a simulated swing out of the drill because it caused a HUGE variation based on how aggressively the girl swung.

Home-to-First
3.6+ very slow
3.4-3.6 slow
3.2-3.4 average
3.0-3.2 quick
2.8-3.0 fast
2.6-2.8 very fast

Just at a tryout. We used three people to time with a watch. Sprinter start when back foot lifts.

WinThemAll, that's the exact same way that I time my team--sprinters start when back foot moves.....I don't have access to lasers. If those are legitimate times, we need to talk.......here are the avg times of the girls on our team, a D1 mid major; which is why I question all hand-timed times that I see......
