I want to move on from my rec league and I need to know how can I get on a travel team. Do I sign up online, tryout, or be asked by a coach to join their team? I'm new to this whole ordeal so I'd appericate it if someone could help me out. :)

Could you tell us the state that you are located in? You don't need to identify yourself.

Here, you would look under ASA Tucson, on the Internet. All of the try outs are listed there.

Yes, you would try out. I guess a few people are invited, but you would know I guess if someone was wanting you to play for them.

Also, if you have a hitting coach, they can help you sometimes.

Below are a couple links that may assist you in your search:

A-Z Softball Search Engine: Fastpitch Team Listings

Girls Fastpitch Softball Team Directory

You can also try a Google search for fastpitch softball followed by you town's name & state.

Here in PA most teams have tryouts in August then play fall ball until the end of October. They'll take a break then start indoor training in January - come March or April is when the fun starts! Teams will often lose a player or two after fall ball since some girls drop out for various reasons. Best of luck to you!

Am I too late to get on a travel ball team?

No, you're not too late. Teams are always looking to pick up one or two good players. There is a travel team out there for everyone. But, you do have to get busy and start trying to find a team now.

My suggestion is to find some teams near you and call up the coaches. Even if they may not have a spot for you, they may know of a coach that is looking for players.

Start calling now, and good luck!

sluggers is correct that you must start calling right now. In Northern CA all of the teams are having their tryouts between mid November through mid December.

If you have a hitting or pitching coach, they can be a great resource and should know of local teams.

It is our experience that it is never "too late". most teams will pick a good player up at any time during the season. That being said, it would be in your best interest to try out for some teams now and earn a spot just like all of the other players on the team.

good luck!!

Ok, I'll start my research. I may be in luck soon because I heard that one of the coaches from rec ball wants to form a new travel team. But it's not someone I'm very fond of and I'm just desparate to get away from my rec league because the competition isn't great and I figured if I want a chance to even make the high school team I should get as high of competition as possible.

This is just my opinion (based on experience) so take it with a grain of salt...

Don't make your first travel ball experience one on a start up team. Try really hard to find an established team that is having tryouts.

After playing little league last spring, DD played for 2 start up TB teams last fall and this spring, the first one ended badly and the team eventually folded and she quickly outgrew the second team.

In Fall, she tried out for and was added to the roster of a respectable local ASA team. She had a good experience and is trying out for them again for Spring season.

Oh, ok. Thanks for the advice! Hopefully I'll find a team because where I live it is a very good place to find lots of travel ball teams but they are not on any websites so I don't know how I can find out any info on them.
