juco is an excellent choice for certain kids for certain reasons-academic, athletic and financial. Keep in mind though, as soon as you sign, it's time to start the whole process over again to find where you are going to play and attend class one or two years later. That can be an overwhelming thought to the family that just finished the process.

Good job, Cannonball. Parents and DDs should turn the recruiting process upside down and worry first about life after softball and then second about softball. One of the saddest things I've seen is ex-college players hanging out at a college for a couple of years after their eligibility ends because they had no plan.

Mark, I think you've got it wrong about jucos. If the kid is successful at juco, finding a place to play is easy. The DD and parents are two years older and everyone is more aware of what softball is and is not. It is much easier to focus on, "What is best for the DD after softball ends?"

Also, athletic scholarships are year-to-year. There is no guarantee that a kid will get $X all four years. So, a kid could be out on her ear after her freshman year.

If the kid wasn't successful in juco, then she has no business trying to play more softball.
