Has anyone used a GoPro Hero3 camera for the purposes of slow motion filming in order to analyze athletic motion? I've seen some good videos out in the wild from the camera but I'm looking for more first hand experience.

Thanks!

Are those the ones you can mount on your bike handle bars or a helmet?

Yeah. I figure it'd be fun to take snowboarding but the real purpose would be to look at batters and pitchers. It seems to have much better quality then the playsport I've been using on the slow-mo stuff, but the internet can be deceiving.

The three top names in that style camera right now:

ReplayXD - Replay XD

GoPro - GoPro Official Website: The World's Most Versatile Camera

Contour - Contour | GPS Video Camera, HD Helmet Camera, and Video Community

I've used all 3, and personally find that the Replay is the least cumbersome, and seems to have the best picture quality out of the box, and simplest mounting system. GoPro is a bigger name, and I've heard great things about their Hero 3 (havent used that one yet) but I'm not a fan of the bulky case it has to sit in and odd mounting system. I much prefer the "lipstick-style" camera like the replay and Contour.

Star, I have the original Gopro. Never used it for slow mo, so I can't help you there. I mostly got it for Mud Bogging with the teens, yea this old guy can still run with these young-ins. Has a completely water proof case so we can sling as mud/crud on it as we want and just hope we remember to wipe off the screen.

I like the wide screen lens because I can set it on our press box and catch the whole field. These videos were uploaded to YouTube in standard def, HD takes a good bit longer. This is also the old Hero, the newer ones have a much improved picture. The older ones were very hard to change the settings because they had to be toggled by 2 buttons through all the options. I hear the new ones are easier.

I too am thinking of upgrading to the new Hero mainly because of the better quality.

Going deep, where are those kids helmets? I ride to, but never without a helmet. I have a Kfx450r, midlife crisis, goes like hell, but not so good in the mud.

Probably in the closet next to their Rip-it masks?? ;)Heck I can't tell those kids anything, hard headed. Me and DD are in my RZR, roll cage and 4 point harnesses.
