You need to get Momo a copy of Jenny Finch's book "Throw Like a Girl", for Christmas. It is a good book for a 12 year old and she talks about a situation very similar to the one mentioned by Pdiddy. She was cut by a team, and she used it as motivation to work harder, and ended up beating the team that cut her!
Thanks so much for that suggestion. I've just put it on my Amazon list, but now need to figure out whether it'll be the paperback or Kindle version.

Thanks, everyone, for the good words.

Making a spring/summer team is different than making a fall team. Traditionally, fall players stay on the same team for spring/summer so there are less roster spots available. My DD's gold team lost none but had try outs to fill those extra two summer spots. You never know how many spots are open when you go to try outs. Sometimes a better player is not picked up because of the coaches loyalties to his existing team. The good news is your DD has a choice and can use this as a motivational tool. Tell Mom it is purely political!

Haha! I have to give the coach some credit for deciding to stick with the majority of the players who joined his team back in August. He never said he was going to dump everyone and start from scratch, but it seemed like he'd be keeping only 5-6. Any potential newcomer would've needed to blow him away. I can't fault him for that.

DGD tried out for a good 12u team a couple of years ago as a catcher during the early fall. She had a very good tryout and made the team. My son wrote a check to the organization for $300 to cover the fees for the fall season (I forget how many tournaments). She had a very good fall season and blended well with all the girls. I can remember the last tournament she hit .650 with several doubles, threw out two or three girls trying to steal 2nd, and picked off one at third.

Then a couple of weeks later, out of the blue, my son gets an email (not the decency of a phone call) letting him know that DGD was not a good fit for the team. My son, being a better man, called the coach to talk to him about it. All the coach would say was that she was not a good fit.

Well, one of son's good friends on the team called him. He said that when the parents found out about what happened, the team almost disbanded the parents were so mad the way situation was handled. I think the only way the team survived was the coach apologized to the parents and agreed to send a refund check for the fees to my son. He also told my son that the team was moving up from 12u to 14u and that one of the AC's daughter was a catcher already at 14u and that DGD was a threat to take her position.

Well, this did not sit well with my DGD so she started working even harder to improve herself. Her hard work has really paid off the last year, now teams are asking her to play for them without a tryout, they have seen her in action. A couple of tournaments ago she faced the original team's no 1 pitcher, who was guest playing for another team. She hit a triple off the RF fence, hit one that hit the third basemen so hard in the leg she had to leave the game, and walked her other time at bat.

The funny thing is her current team and the other team are now both in the same organization. When I asked DGD if she would guest play with them if asked, she gave me a very emphatic NO!

Tell Momo to keep working hard and enjoying the game. There are many reasons for not being selected for a team, not all of them are fair. Such is life.

Two of the older coaches for that 12u team co-head coached my DD's team at the gold level last year. They are the best coaches she has ever had. Keep having her try out for that team in the future. Didn't know you were so close to us.
