Hello Guys
I have been reading posts for a long time and have a question now. My DD is pitching and I have been catching her using my regular old glove and it is getting to the point where I need to a catcher mitt. I would like some suggestions on what I should get. I don't want to spend a ton of money on something just for practice but I also don't want to buy the Walmart special. I like the Mizuno GXS90FS2 from what what I can see online about it. Maybe call me old school but I like to have my index finger out of the glove when I catch and it seems like a lot of gloves now make that hard. I don't have any good stores around to go and check gloves out at so any suggestions are welcomed.

I have been looking on Ebay any other other suggestion on other places where to look?

Thanks

Also thanks for all the great information that is on this site.

DD is and 14 and just started pitching a few months a ago. I know this is a late start for pitching but we are a small town and are trying to get our high school program built built up. We only have a have a varsity program now and we are trying to getting get a JV program started. They had no pitchers and my DD said she would try it. We have been going to training the last few months to get her ready and she has really started showing some good improvements and I just want to get a mitt that is good for practice. Price range I want to try and stay under $150 since it just be for lessons and practice.

We are not just doing the pitching to make the team. By pitching she will probably drop down to the JV team this year just to pitch. If she did not change to pitcher as a freshman she would more than likely make the varsity team. But then we probably would not have have a JV team because of lack of pitchers. However in the small amount of time she has been to lessons the I have been told that she is showing great improvement and doing good in transitions to pitcher.

PM Drakemir here. He's a Vinci rep and can put you in a pretty solid glove at the 150 price range.

I bought a cheap diamond mitt from e-bay. It’s been fine but if I were doing it
over I’d probably buy a nicer one. You start working with her and she likes it you
might be catching more than you thought. You won’t regret buying a nice one.

I agree with Dandan I got a cheap mit because I didn’t know how much dd was going to be pitching. Once I started losing feelings in thumb and index fingers I realized I needed thicker leather and more padding. I got lucky and found a gem in a second hand store still with tags for $20 but was going to spend the money if I had to. If your dd is already 14 treat yourself to a sturdy glove you can sell it if she quits you will be happy if she keeps pitching.

I like the All-Star CMW 3000. I found it online on sale for around the $100 mark one black Friday or Monday. It was commonly $150. It's worth either price. It looks like they're calling it the Adult Vela Pro Single Hinge now.
My DD is a catcher, so it'll be hers when she's ready to move up, but I've used it a ton for both softball and baseball.
It's nice and easy on the hand.

Say you spend $150 on the mitt, and in a few months (maybe after this season) she decides she doesn't really want to pitch. So what? You can still use that catcher's mitt to play catch with her for as long as she plays. It's not like you're trying to play shortstop in games with it. So you'll still get use out of it, even if not for its intended purpose. It won't be a waste of money.

And if it does go down that way, you can always donate the mitt to the program/one of the catchers on the team. You said they're trying to build the program, so I imagine they could always use equipment. In fact, it may not be a bad idea to have your DD bring the mitt to practices/games to let the catcher use it if she doesn't have one of her own.
