This video is more about stretches than a routine. They have several catching videos on their you tube channel, good stuff on technique as well as strength & conditioning.

Thanks for this. Relatedly, I bought Wasserman's Catcher Strength Training E-book last year. Constantly encouraged DD to do a handful of the intro level stretches/exercises every other day. She protested ("it's boring!"), and lasted about a week. I think she'd be more inclined to block and throw, then to stretch, for pre-game warmups. They are all important, obviously.

My second year 12U DD was given this workout from her catching coach a month ago. She does this every single day and before each game she plays. She does the usual team warmups as well.

Dynamic Catching-Specific Workout

LEGS
-10 squats
-10 squat jumps
-10 transfers from feet
-10 transfer pushes from knees

BLOCKING
-10 from knees --------- she starts on her knees with a ball in front of her and works with getting her glove down quickly and her throwing hand behind her glove.
-10 from feet *** focus on kicking back!

FRAMING (holds) ---------I usually just toss tennis balls and she frames them with her bare hands.
-10 inside
-10 outside

TRANSFER + THROW --------we always use a flat glove with this
-Solo Ball Tosses: Transfers Only- 25 reps
-Solo Ball Tosses: Transfers + Throwing Position (Knees)- 10 reps
-Solo Ball Tosses: Transfer + Throwing Positions (Feet)- 10 reps
-10 Throws, Feet
-10 Throws, Knees

how long does this routine normally take? does she do it in conjunction with another catcher? before or after team warmups?

Catcher drills during the week include blocking 30 pitches in different locations (in/out/middle), framing 30 tennis balls barehanded (in/out/high/low), 30 transfers with flat glove into throwing position, long toss up to ~175 feet, knee throws to 90 feet. We do this 2x/week, and those last two are about 10-15 reps each or until her arm is fatigued, then we ice it.

Pregame warmups include extensive leg stretching, progressive long toss with the other catcher while everyone else is warming up, and blocking and framing while she warms up pitchers. I like the comments people make when she does long toss.

What age is your DD?

She’s 18. When she was 12 she was throwing ~100 feet, at 14 she threw ~125 feet, at 16 she threw ~145. Her growth is steady, and I wish she had met one of her “catcher-centric” coaches 6 years ago instead of 2 years ago.

Wow, your DD's commitment to this routine is impressive. I'd be happy if my DD signed on to 1/4th of this.

At first it was different for her. She doesn't mind this workout now. She has another one she does three times a week that involves zig-zag blocking and frame walking. That really get she heart to pumping. She is glad when it is over.
