has complained about taking it on the thumb, as last issue was ring finger, says it feels like her nail is being ripped off (no bruising, swelling, etc). don't know exactly what she did, so best I can describe is she jammed it.

Along with a good catcher's glove, I would also recommend the EvoShield thumb guard. My DD is 9 years old and I bought her a few catcher's glove, but she is still not strong enough to close them. I've have the Vinci Fortus, Easton Mako and just recently purchased the All-Start CMW4000 (for later lol).

we went with the AS CMW3000, and an inner glove as well. she had (and still has an EVOshield, from when she really got jammed last spring (pitcher pitched while her glove was not completely on, took ball directly on base of thumb). does not like it, will try it though in new glove, a bit bigger (she announced to me at practice the other night she needs a bigger mitt),.

You may find that with the CMW3000, that additional protection might not be necessary.

I agree with Eric here! The CMW3000 is a lot of mitt for a 10 year old, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying she can't use it but I remember very well the process breaking that mitt in! But back to Eric's comment, with the padding that mitt has, I just can't see a 10 or 11 year old pitcher throwing hard enough to give you any hand problems......unless she's that 1% or 2% phenom pitcher!

that's what we are hoping for.

I am off all next week, so hopefully it will be good opportunity to get and play catch a lot to help break it in. she actually has a tournament indoors on the 28th (one day, 4-6 games possible, she will probably catch 1-2 games). hopefully it is game ready by then. if not, she can use inner glove with her Mizuno Prospects mitt.

I've seen plenty of 10-11yos throwing in the 50s, which is enough to bite a 10-11yo catcher pretty good. The CMW3000 is a pretty significant glove, but definitely usable by many catchers of that age. It was in the running for my DD at 11yo, but she elected a Miz.

Dang Eric, you in California and JAD in Georgia.......you guys must have some bad girls in your states! A while back JAD recommended a Kip leather Vinci catchers mitt to a 9 year old, and you have 10 year old girls throwing in the 50's.......we must have a bunch of sissy girls here in good ole North Carolina!! Trust me, I know those pitchers are out there, I just haven't seen too many of them. Now 12 year old girls in the low to mid 50's, seen lots of them!

When my DD started playing TB in second-year 10U, we had a lefty throwing 49-51 in games (legit, on radar). She wasn't the fastest we saw that year. At 10yo, there aren't very many of those girls. At 11yo, low-50's becomes a little more common.
