Thanks! This is good info. We currently have the canon for an arm catcher catching for our #1 pitcher and the other catcher with our #2 (also a young a wild pitcher). This works for us and them. But maybe this weekend we will mix it up and see how that goes. This is our first year as a TB team playing 16u A. We are winning games and having fun!

Good idea to switch it up so you really know what your best combination is. A good pitcher can mask a catcher's limitations, but a good catcher will make any pitcher more effective.

Better to have fewer players trying to steal. Remember that with every steal there is a chance something could go wrong and the runner could take an extra base.

So fun to watch though! Especially when they're getting the outs. I see your point though...

every strike 3 she catches

DD is in rec and DD is really the best catcher our team has. She's also one of the best pitchers they have so when DD is pitching, we don't have the greatest catching.
Girl catching for her yesterday cannot seem to catch the ball and does not get D3S. DD gets a lot of strikeouts that turn into singles because C doesn't tag and doesn't throw to 1B..
Nice to have 4 K's in one inning though ;)

Yes it is fun. I love seeing one of my students gun down a runner where it isn't even close. But look at it this way - would you rather find a great cure for your cold or avoid getting the cold entirely? I know which one I'd choose.

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger? 🤷🏽*♀️ I definitely get what you're saying. I'm thinking for the future... this little 13 year old is a fireball & has a strong work ethic. I'm excited to pair her with our #1 pitcher & see what happens. I feel like what was said earlier is true, with either girl we are in a good spot! One weekend of fall ball left. Here we go..: good luck everybody!

Interesting. My daughter is a 14u catcher. Very solid at blocking and receiving, arm is ok. (We are working on that). Oddly enough, she doesn't get a lot of steal attempts against her.

Sounds like she presents herself as one not to be messed with catcher is my favorite position to watch. Have a good season!

Just for arguments sake... this sounds like a very similar situation with our team. 2nd game of our wknd & #2 Pitcher was struggling a bit to get the strikes. Our little catcher picked off 2 at third and caught 2 of 4 stealing 2nd. The other two she tried really hard to get a low strike for our pitcher and the other pitch was in the dirt but she came up clean and held back her throw. In my opinion she got 4 extra outs with a struggling pitcher. Strategically, this seems like a win to me! I kinda like that other coaches are underestimating her? But that's probably like playing the lottery at times...

Perception is a powerful force. Two of our catchers this summer (not my kid), were kind of opposites. "A" has a cannon, but slow feet. "B" has a much weaker arm, but is very quick in getting rid of the ball. Against the clock, "B"s pop-time can't be touched by "A". As is often the case, coaches and players will use a catcher's throw-down as their game-time evaluation. "A" had very few girls attempt a flat steal. "B" had a lot more attempts, and a lot of them were caught. Although it would appear to many that "B" is more effective, I'm more of a fan of catchers that keep runners from even trying.

My favorite example from my own kid...First batter of the game walked. First pitch to the 2nd batter, and the runner went. Maddie nailed her at 2B. That was the only SB attempt all game.

I was trying to quote this in my above comment... #newbie
