Which glove is larger / has a bigger pocket - The Rawlings Liberty Advanced 34" or the All-Star Vela Pro CMW3000?

My DD has always used a Mizuno mitt, however, I'd like to get her something with a bit more padding. We tried the Vinci JCV-VM, but DD didn't like it...she just wasn't comfortable with it :(. I really liked that glove. Thought it was well made, great padding, etc. I ended up giving it to a mom of a pitcher on a younger team in our organization. She is loving it!

Any info you folks can provide would be most appreciated since we don't have a store nearby to check for ourselves. Thank you.

I don't own a Liberty Advanced but last year I played around with one, caught maybe 20/25 balls with it? It was well broken it, but still stiff in all the right places. I liked it! I do own an All-Star CMW3000, it's a great mitt, I highly recommend it. Now going off memory the Liberty was a overall larger mitt, not necessarily a larger pocket, just a larger glove in general. Can't say I remember the padding in the Liberty?

Now my All-Star has tons of padding and even though it's a little smaller than the Liberty it has a great pocket. It took some work getting it to where it is but I love catching with it. I think where it shines is it's single break heel, the 3000 model was designed that way for maximum thumb protection. My DD can occasionally hit 60 mph but she really spins the ball, I also warm up a girl who hits 62/63 with just straight gas and I never get thumb stingers! My only complaint with my All-Star is the laces are just okay, the leather is fantastic but the laces are just so-so. But I think the lace on 90% of new gloves suck these days!

Rumble25, I think you'll be happy with either of these two choices, two really good mitts! I would definitely buy my All-Star again. Just go with the best deal you can find between the two and enjoy.

Thanks annasdad, I appreciate the feedback. I seem to remember reading that the Catching Camp helped design the CMW3000, which I like. Thanks again!

Mizunos (especially the H-web versions) tend to have a very deep pocket. The Vinci JCV-VM and Wilson A2000 have a very shallow pocket. My DD struggled for a while with her Vinci for this reason, even to the point of wanting me to sell it. As a last-ditch effort, I replaced the solid web with an H-web, and it made a lot of difference for her. She is now happy with it and using it successfully. The Liberty Advanced tends more towards the Mizuno end of the spectrum for pocket depth, and is very well padded. The CMW is in the same range as the LA for padding, but isn't quite as deep in the pocket, although not nearly as shallow as a stock JCV-VM or A2000. However, the feel of the CMW300 is fairly different due to the single-hinge design. My DD didn't care for it. Between the All-Star mitts, she preferred the CMW4000.

The best way to find the "right" mitt is to try them. It's very much a personal preference thing. Justballgloves.com will let you return within 100 days for a full refund, and let you break it in. A few people (including myself), have purchased multiple gloves/mitts at once, and returned the ones that didn't work. Kind of hard to beat that kind of service.

You can't have a glove with a larger pocket unless you add more material and weight. You can loosen the lacing between the web and palm of the mitt. You can also have her slide her index finger over to the middle stall. That will also open the pocket considerably and reduces sting/numbness

More padding is not the answer. Learning how to proper catch the ball in the mitt and learning proper timing is the answer.
