Looking for a few ideas for a mitt for our high school team's use next year. We don't have any players who have grown up as catchers, so nobody has their own mitt. Would like something that can last a couple years, at least, and we don't have anybody throwing anywhere near 60 mph at this time.

Doesn't have to be immediately game ready. I can spend the fall/winter breaking it in.

I've never purchased a catcher's mitt before, so even the sizes (33"? 34"?) confuse me.

Hard to go wrong with a Vinci JCV-VM. See if Drakemir can hook you up.

Normally I'd agree with JAD 100% and recommend a Vinci or All-Star. But in your situation I think I'd go for lowest price first, something several girls can start using right away and get a 34" mitt. I've only had one Mizuno mitt and it was a 34" model, absolutely massive pocket, no padding......but huge pocket. With the 10% off coupon on this link, that puts it just over $80.00. Should last a couple of seasons if the coach takes care of it?

DD has had 2 different All Star gloves. A lower level model CMW2510 and now a CMW4000. She loves them. Still doesn't want to part with the 2510 and even still uses it in games from time to time.

I just picked up a new but discontinued Worth Liberty Advanced mitt on Ebay for $90.00 They are all over ebay for good deals. I think these are great mitts and for $90.00 you cant go wrong.

That I can. a JCV-VM would last a good 10 years with proper care on a casual level. For girls that don't catch on a normal basis I would recommend a 33 - there isn't a lot of difference while using them - but it will be more comfortable for girls who don't use them regularly, - and a bit lighter.

Send me a message and I'll get you a price if you want. If you're not in any huge hurry, Vinci is offering factory break in on gloves now, but it would take a 2-4 weeks to arrive instead of 2-3 days.

I agree, if you can find a Liberty for $90.00, I'd jump on it over that Mizuno I posted!

Academa Praying Mantis for $85 at Epic Sports. The thing wears like iron and was not too hard to break in. Multiple catchers have used it since 2010 and it is still going strong. My personal opinion is that the Mizuno for under $100 does not wear as well.
