I don't understand how just blocking with just your glove or at most one knee would be effective. I would think the ball would get away from you faster and easier blocking that way. Personally, I block the way your daughter blocks. I get down on both knees and get my glove down. That way the ball can hit my wrist guards and chest protector. I've always gotten high praise from my coaches for how I block.
Gabby, I'll be the first to admit...I'm not the go to guy when it comes to catching prowess and knowledge.
But everything I saw when playing back in the 80's and 90's, along with all the catchers I see on TV tell me, to jump over and block with 2 knees so that's what I tell my DD to do...she is not a full time catcher.
She normally plays Infield/Outfield
But yes, I was being sarcastic above.
Yes, the HS coach tells the catchers to NOT block with 2 knees...but my DD does, gets yelled at, and just smiles about it.
I do not know why the coach teaches a 1-knee or No-knee block...Try to use the glove as much as possible, is what is being taught...
