She is 10U and has worked her way to #1 spot catching. We've practiced throwing at least 20 minutes a night in front of house for WEEKS...in additional to full catching practices with a private coach whenever our budget allows for it and regular team efforts.

She has a quick release and a strong arm in spite of not being particularly huge, and it all came together this weekend. In her first inning of the first game, she gunned a girl on a beautiful back-door pick at 3rd. Our parents went nuts (me included) while my DD jumped up and down at home with excitement.

It absolutely lit her up, and she proceeds to throw out two more at second base before tourney was over. At some point I realized the other teams weren't even trying steals to 3rd on her, and only the absolute fastest would try 2nd. She should have had a couple more at 2, but our SS failed to cover a few times.

Catching is SO hard, but the payoff for that work can be simply incredible. She took a nasty foul to the leg, and had a bat thrown off of her chest protector today as well, but never came out of game or even asked for time. I've never been more proud of my little girl.

I simply HAD to express it, and could think of no better place than here since I've learned a TON on this site. Thanks for indulging me, and all the help along the way.

Great job by you and your daughter. It takes a lot of additional work to be good catcher. It can be very difficult to find decent catchers at the 10u level. Sounds like she is doing a wonderful job and is a tough kid. Congrats.

Congrats to her! I have a pitcher myself and a great appreciation for a good catcher. Makes all the difference in the game!

Nothing like shutting down a running game by picking off a runner early. Get their very first base runner, and it pretty much kills their willingness to try.

Congratulations! There’s no better friend to a pitcher than a catcher with a great arm. DD’s been bailed out several times by hers through the years.
