I'm way behind the curve with college games this season. I just managed to watch Miss St. vs. LSU (game 1) last night and I was pleasantly surprised to see Sahvanna Jaquish behind the dish. I thought she did a really great job and it got me to thinking....who are the best college catchers this season?

Sahvanna Jaquish - LSU

I'm going to disagree with this one (from a defensive standpoint only, she's a GREAT hitter...)

I've watched a lot of LSU this season, as they have been featured prominently on ESPN Replay.

She probably averages at least 2 passed balls per game.
Especially with Hoover in the circle, Jaquish seems to struggle gloving her riseball - and not just riseballs up and out of the zone.
To be fair, Hoover can get pretty wild at times, and there are usually at least 2 wild pitches mixed-in with the 2 or more passed balls...
LSU (Hoover/Jaquith) has given up more runs on wild pitch/passed balls than any other combo I've watched this season.

So Cal
Although maybe not at the top of the list, defensively, I really enjoy watching Madeline Jelenicki (UCLA) work the dish. She is CONSTANTLY talking to her pitchers - before every single pitch. It doesn't get picked up on the TV broadcasts, but in person, it's very apparent.

The fact that she shares a name with my kid doesn't hurt much, either. ;)
