She is still alive anyways.

If you think it is hurting her chances of playing in coledege or more importantlty her health, I would say something.

DW appeerantly disagrees with you. DW and I need to be on same page before we approach HC, preferable DD too but not a requirement.

My DD's team has my DD and another catcher are about the same skill level and should each start every other game, which is how I prefer it. However there are three other catchers who might get some time behind the plate who are well below the other two in skill level one far enough below I concerned she might get hurt.

Ok so her current situation is that she is the only catcher..... well the only catcher that gives us a reasonable chance at winning a game. We live in the south so the heat and humidity is pretty much always a factor. This past weekend she caught for our 4 pool play games with 1 game break in between each game which were 80 min games. For bracket play she caught 5 games which were in a row. The coach tends to ask her if she is good to go and she always says yes but I believe everyone knows in the back of their mind that there is really no other option.

That is way, way too much no matter the 'different limits for different players'. Yes, some players may be able to do more than others - but it isn't the one weekend - it is the build up over time and I don't know how anyone can predict that effect. 9 games including 5 in a row after catching 4 the previous day is unacceptable. 4 in a day is pretty much unacceptable even with game breaks. It is too much and you know it.

And it is never going to change if the coach doesn't start developing someone else. And if that means taking some losses - especially in pool games - then so be it. Long term the team will be better for it. I guarantee there are games where he is just making life easier for himself by leaving her at C instead of putting the developing or lesser player in. 9 games at C a weekend and similar she is soon going to be injured anyway.

Your DD is still at an age where she is probably going to have trouble saying 'no' to an adult (including you). You are going to have to be a parent and do it for her or help her do it. My DD is a pitcher... her current coach understands the limits - it is max every other game and if he needs her to go two in a row in bracket then she will. But that is it no matter what the 'next' game is. You need to set similar limits. He rarely approaches these limits but then the time was taken to develop and get the experience for the other options on the team - they are now good enough to come through for us regularly (and 18 months ago they were not).

I guess the question is, does she want to be able to walk without a cane when she's 40? That seems like a LOT of catching to me. I also have a pitcher. She's our #1 and she's recovering from an injury so her pitching time is limited right now. She pitched 1.66 out of 9 games this weekend. The 3 we lost, we might've won had she pitched them but that's life. Our other pitchers had to step up and they did great, and they will develop into being stronger pitchers while we take our lumps now. If the coach wanted DD to pitch every game just so we wouldn't have preventable losses I don't think I'd like him very much. Her health is more important than any one game win.

DD is an 02, second year 14u. This year she is pretty much the only catcher on her travel team. She caught huge amounts in the fall. 8 games over one Saturday and Sunday weeeknd. Our 3rd baseman is the back up, but not only do we suffer behind the plate when she's there, we also suffer at 3rd base when she isn't there.

As a freshman, DD and her knees are enjoying a nice rest from catching in HS because they have enough catchers. Playing 1b/2b on varsity and pitching on JV.

I know when she gets back to the travel team in June, that she's going right back behind the plate for the rest of the summer. When travel tryouts come up in August, I'm considering telling coach we can't commit to the team until we know he has a 2nd catcher committed to split the time. DD is very versatile, can play pretty much anywhere and hit .470 in the fall, but she can't continue catching every game we play.

Sometimes you get stuck in a spot, injuries whatever, and make do and survive.

You should not walk into a situation you are uncomfortable with.
