My DD wearing the painted Wilson FX2.0 helmet with the new All-Star System 7 gear and Vinci mitt during practice today...

I ordered the All-Star helmet (matte - MVP2500MTT), but it has been on backorder for the longest time. So I bought the Wilson FX2.0 navy blue since they are practically giving them away and painted it (see previous posts). We'll see, but I'm thinking about cancelling the All-Star helmet order or probably keep it as a backup.

As far as the Wilson helmet, I probably should've used a lighter silver for the lines, but it still looks very cool. She is like all "color coordinated".... even her evoshield sleeve.

Now... my DD is on a mission to get it soiled!!

Was not expecting that the helmet would not even last a season... aluminum frame is very fragile... The paint did hold very well. It is a shame, because the painted helmet looks cool and was her favorite. It was her primary helmet.

BTW, she never takes the helmet off when catching, so this is not a case of breaking the frame because she dropped the helmet. However, I suspect that it took a beating inside her bag, even though she always put it inside its helmet pouch.

I bought another one just as a backup.

But she'll be using her All-Star helmet from now on. Very disappointed.

I'm right here.

I'm surprised. Bought our DD the Wilson shock. It rolled off shelf in garage under vehicle. DW drove over head gear and dragged it a little. Wondering what she hit she stopped to find the head gear. It's a little "tweaked" but still functional with no broken parts.

So Cal
My DD just retired her Wilson helmet after 2 years of reliable service with no issues. She just out-grew it. Unfortunately, the Large Wilson helmet is too big for her, and the All-Star didn't sit right on her head. She is now using an Easton M10.

I have to guess what my DD helmet's had a manufacturing defect. It is close to two welding areas, so maybe an issue with the heat affected zone adding stresses. Very unusual, as I would've expected a more plastic deformation rather than a break like that.

Looks like a typical type of break for aluminum - catastrophic, rather than the more plastic deformation before failure that is typical for steel.

Still expect some plastic deformation on aluminum (see stress-strain plot below), unless this was treated hardened. Having said that, the welding may had caused hardening in the heat affected zone, changing material characteristics in that specific area, making it more brittle. That's what I'm betting on.

Here is our very similar break after one season this year. Fortunately, it was still under warranty. Unfortunately, Wilson gave us a voucher for a mask of like quality since they no longer make this one. It turned out well though, my daughter likes the new Wilson Pro Stock mask. She doesn't throw the mask BTW. Hardly ever takes it off during a game. There were no 'violent' hits on the mask either.

I realized, after reading all your posts about warranty claims, that my DD's helmet was still under warranty until September. I bought the helmet for $75 last year with wilson.com when they were selling the last of them. So, I submitted my warranty claim yesterday and it was approved in 1 hour. They gave me a voucher for $159.99. Not bad. I purchased the pro stock helmet this morning.

I'm glad you realized that it was under warranty. The returns department was very quick when they processed my problem, and I'm happy with their service. I got the Wilson during the closeout as well, but not directly from the Wilson store. Let us know what you think of the new helmet. Like I said, DD is happy with hers, and that's what really matters. I was surely tempted to find out if I could get away with putting the voucher towards a glove though.
