Hello there. Not looking for a handout, just something to hold my newly-excited about catching, 9yo DD (Gracie) over until her "good" glove comes along.

I can get the Mizuno GSX101 for $50 delivered, but honestly I worry that she'll expose herself to an injury if she catches for some of the faster pitchers in our local Rec league. She is playing "up" at the 12U level and some of the girls can hit the mid-40s mark.

Anyway, I just thought if I was going to spend that much on a GSX101, I might be better served to try and find a used one with a little better hand protection to hold her over.

If you have something that you think might work, send me a message if you would. Many thanks for your time and consideration.

Try Play It Again Sports, Boomerang Sports, or Ebay....I would also search your local Craigslist.org posts just in case.

Yeah, I hit the local Play it Again and couldn't find anything at all in the way of fastpitch mitts. Same-same for local Craigslist.

eBay is always an option, but I figured I'd try DFP first as I generally trust the members here more than a random member of the public.

Get her a decent first base mitt. It's a lot larger than a FP catchers mitt making it easier for a new catcher to get her glove on the ball. The palm is not as padded which will force her to receive the ball in the pocket. But it has good padding on the outside of the thumb to protect from injury. Also, the first base mitt is usually lighter than a catchers mitt, which helps keep her hands fast. It will be easier for little hands to squeeze. My DD is a lefty so it was easier to find a LHT first base mitt. She didn't get a catchers mitt until last year, (She's a freshman in HS).

If you watch a lot of college softball you will see a number of catchers who use a first base mitt.
