My DD moves up to 14 u (TB) in the fall. Her primary position is catcher, with secondary being either SS or LF. She is eager to buy her first set of metal cleats. I have read various posts (and most girls seem to LOVE them). I noticed a good amount of feedback on what pitchers like, but not a lot of specific information on what catchers' prefer.

So catcher parents - what worked well for your DDs?

Appreciate the feedback and suggestions!

I can't speak for specifically catchers but we love Mizuno 9 spikes. That's what we recommend for our girls.

The only issue I've seen with my catchers (baseball and softball) with metal cleats is in a potential impact play at the plate. My son banged his knee up pretty badly because he planted his feet and dropped the knee before placing the tag. Took a shot to the knee and his feet didn't slide out of position like they did with plastic. Just an adjustment, but a concern none the less.

DD wears Ringors and loves them. The only problem she had was being able to break them in. She would try to rotate a new pair in at the beginning of the season during practice. Then, by about a third of the year over, she would make the move to the new cleats full time.

DD wears men's Under armour metal cleats. We have 3 pairs of Ringors and they are great quality but she says the Under Armour are way more comfortable and extremely light. They can get expensive so we wait until they go on sale or buy last year's model.

My dd catcher prefers Ringor all leather metal spikes with the pitcher's toe. She currently has New Balance but liked the Ringors better even though the Ringors are noticably heavier. As Cannonball stated above the Ringors do take a bit longer to break in.

DD has caught in spikes the last 2 years. Once you buy them, good luck trying to get them to wear plastic again.

Most catchers are not known for their speed, so the extra weight of the Ringors will probably have a negligeable effect on their home-to-first times.....
