DD's new 9u team played in their first tourney this past weekend and she did great. Lots of nerves about facing live pitching, especially the one 10u team that had some pitchers throwing pretty hard. We just formed this team in August, 5 girls from dd's previous team and 5 from another. Two girls from the other team seemed to be our best pitchers and my dd was a close 3rd. The one girl seems at practice to be the best hitter and fielder as well with my dd being a close 2nd. My dd always seems to shine in games (she is really good for a 9yo at controlling her nerves/emotions) and this weekend was no different. She pitched 4 innings over two games and really surprised everyone. She was nervous at the plate but in the first game she drove one deep into left field and smoked a line drive to left, both for doubles. Against the 10u team all the girls were talking about how fast they were pitching and kind of psyched themselves out. DD's our 2 hitter and laid down a perfect bunt, never done it in a game, and made it to 1 easily. She caught some hard shots at third from that team and threw them out at 1 numerous times. She also caught an inning and came sooo close to throwing runners out at 2 a couple of times. We finished 2nd to the 10u team and easily beat the other 9u teams. Head coach isn't real talkative but came up to me after a couple of games and told me how great dd was playing. If we get our girls hitting like I know they can coupled with how well all of our pitchers are progressing, we are going to be tough for other 9u teams to beat.
