Some of my players that I coach hitting with are having huge national tournaments. One of my 12u played up and ended up hitting some bombs. One of these bombs was to the opposite field. I am getting text all day yesterday and this morning about others. One of my hitters sent me a text two days ago saying that she hit a 2 run walk off to the opposite field. She has never hit a ball over the fence before. She was beside herself with joy and I told her she would do it at some point. This young lady is going to get to play in college. When she was a sophomore, she wasn't even thought to have a chance to make varsity. This morning, one of my favorites hit a bomb. Yes, I have favorites and if you want to know why, she hits with me for hours when it is 115+ heat index. I have to make her go home. Anyway, the proof is in the pudding. No, not about what I teach but rather about these young ladies. I often talk about the "wannabees" They wanna be good. They wanna win. ... However, a vast majority spend very little time being a "be." In my classroom I have a sign that says that if you want success, you have to cry, bleed, have blisters, ... and that nothing worth while in this world comes without some level of heartache at some point. We have had a great year hitting in the cages but, as I always tell them, they don't need me. They have work ethic. They have desire. They are competitive. The proof is in the pudding!
