Those words were uttered to my 11 year old DD 3 years ago by her then travel coach. A parent who has a DD the same age.. After a tough loss where my DD struggled and was at a very low point this coach decided to approach DD to try to talk her out of pitching. DD was throwing harder than her kid and there was a rivalry developing that would carry on to this day. DD is the starting varsity Pitcher in HS DD has had a great season.. 14-3 so far with a no hitter and she just 2 hit (shut out) our conference rivals to pull the team even for the conference lead.
DD was on the fence that day but decided instead to follow her dream. She is the hardest working kid I know and has made such improvements over the last 3 years that it's almost unbelievable. Tonight we were hitting balls at our local field when 2 parents approached us and asked if DD could set up lessons to teach their kids how to pitch. One kid told DD that she was struggling and was thinking about quitting. DD told her the story above and shared details that I never knew until today.
DO NOT let anyone discourage your DD from following her dreams! This is a marathon, not a sprint. Hard work really does pay off.
